Hey guys,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

After buying a 2Watt 450nm i am now sold on lasers!

I'm looking for a high powered 532nm that's made for distance and visibility rather than burning. What do you guys think of this, seems to be a few people here with this laser and it seems pretty cheap for what it is.

Just like to get your opinions :)

Powerful Crown upgrade 500mW green laser torch/waterproof [OL-532-500] - $274.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Price: $274.99

Wavelength:
532nm

Output Power:
>450mW

Jack

Olike from what I have seen on the forums has been hit and miss at least as far as output goes and many have had a lot of grief trying to get resolution with various issues.
Personally I have purchased 4 times with them with one issue that was an easy fix. I own that particular unit that you are looking at and mine lpm'd at 607 but I feel I got lucky.
Thee tailcap clicky failed on it but I figured out the issue and made the repair but they are sending me a new clicky.
Also purchased a > 220mw 650nm that was inexpensive that tested at 230 so it was within spec.
If you do order from them just know that I may have been lucky. Also add the star caps and one of their 12 dollar adjustable focus reds.... I think it's also a 650nm that comes in a very nice silver/chrome pen host as it is adjustable focus and the 2 I ordered were over their stated 100mw rating by 30-50mw.
Apropriate glasses always a must.
My personal experience with them has been ok but you should really check the forums for more info on unhappy customers not to mention you may find a nicer unit on the buy/sell/trade section;)
Also as almost always, be prepared to wait a month to receive anything.

You would have been so much better off listening to phoenix. Jetlasers is a pro company and not just a retail company from what ive seen.
Anyways, congrats on the purchase. I hope it suits your needs :)

There is very little chance that cute will do 200mW.

Regarding the Crown, they are very hit and miss, as are all lasers I've gotten from O-like.

On mine personally the spring attached to the driver bent... with really no way to get to it. The host is a major pain to take apart. Lazeerer is trying to repair it for me, but it doesn't look promising. This problem is not unique to me. The driver is held to the module just with solder, and clearly the solder point between spring and driver was weak. This is a ridiculously easy problem to avoid...

IMO O-like dropped the ball big time in the customer service department lately, and the qc department far too many times.

Only way I ever order from o-like is if I can't find the same item from a different supplier.

Jetlasers is phenomenal in terms of service, and their 200mW lasers will actually do 200mW... and that's with an IR filter.

I take some issue with their labeling system for power...

The second laser I got from them, a "tactical" 1.2W only did ~1.05W. When I contacted them, I was told, well - the 1.2W is the raw optical output from the diode, before the loss from the focusing lens, and the waterproofing lens... That's deceptive.

Bear in mind also that the o-like lasers are NOT IR filtered... that 500mW crown, that is really only listed as >450mW, could well have 100mW+ of IR content. In fact one of the similar stick models I had from them measured 85-100mW IR, out of a total of 500mW at peak.

For the moment, I would suggest either jetlasers, or if you're on a budget and can wait a bit, the skylasers group buy.

Better off getting a quality 200mW or 300mW or whatever, vs a crappy laser. In the short term you might in out. In the long term, cheap lasers tend to be nothing but trouble.

The prices from skylaser are actually very competitive. My HL532 300mW outperformed my 400mW o-like stick, and matched the 500mW o-like crown for example. Obviously overspec is not a guarantee, but it's a good bet.

I see you already made your purchase, but thought i would add my 2 cents for future reference.

I bought one of the Olike 532nm 400mw version Crown Upgrade from CajunLasers, back when Clif was selling these. I also bought a Power Rock 445 1W (~800mW) about a year ago direct from Olike. I like these lasers in design and while not top of the line quality, they are still working great.

I performed the lens mod to both the 532 and 445 (see: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/c...cs-edit-removed-waterproofing-lens-70787.html ) and was able to get better beam brightness and focus. Apparently this works on any of the Power Rock style lasers, but does limit the waterproofing capabilities.

I was just looking at the 200mw you ordered, please let us know how you like it. The size and style is great. I might need to order one of those too :)

As stated above, it's hit or miss with Olike, but I think I would buy from them again in the future. I am interested in your experience with this purchase.

Good luck with your new laser!
