Hi All,
I´m new to the Laser world and recently ordered a WL 35 Advanced Executive Series by WL.  Now, from what I´ve read on this forum, some of you aren´t all that jazzed about WL...certainly not as jazzed at the people on the lasercommunity forum, Wicked´s own I believe.  I´m still learning and gathering info, etc.  I got this particular version because it´s compact, looked pretty cool, has decent divergence from what I understand, and I didn´t want to burn stuff with it but rather want to use it mainly to point out sky objects and not kill myself with it.

But I´m already getting the fever to invest in a higher power laser.  So to diversify my ¨collection¨ as it were, both in terms of the companies supplying my lasers and in terms of power, can anyone out there recommend a good quality laser, fairly compact in size, that is, say, in the 125mw to 150mw range?  I´m liking what I see from LaserGlow in the Aries series.   I think that range would be a decent choice for a noticeably brighter beam and possible burning capabilities...yes?

First, what do you think of my 35mw purchase.  Am I good with that?  Second, opinions on the Aries or perhaps another good brand I don´t know about?  Thanks much.

I am going to answer your questions in reverse !

ARIES - Big yes ! That is the way to go !!! I own the Aries 175mw and continue on a daily basis to be amazed at it's power ! I don't want to over do the description, adn make it sound like a commercial for Laserglow - but they do mighty fine work - suctomer service is out of this world !

35mw WL - Hmmmm I have seen LOTS of complaints over on LC regarding folks getting bad lasers lately - I do not know if that has changed or not ! TO be as fair and objective as possible, you always hear about the bad experiences - and very few of the good ones.

Go with a Envee from lucentoptics.com

I also hear they will be selling 175mW PGLIII's (Laserglows Aries) for prices that will put Laserglow out of business ;D (Possibly within' the next week)

Well, you can bet if my new 35mw is a piece of crap, I´ll give them a major reaming. Hopefully, they´ll make good on it, if it´s not right. Seems from what I´ve read elsewhere, WL will send out a replacement if necessary. I´ll report back on when I get it. Any good experiences out there with the 35mw from WL?

I'll be looking forward to if you pop a balloon with your 35mw. It's possible if you use a lens to focus the energy good luck and keep us posted too.

I have an Aries 225 - I love it but it isn't the most portable thing in the world. My next purchase will be an ENVEE. Whenever they decide to start selling lasers again...

The WL 35mW will be MORE than adequate for pointing and showing a good beam at night. For astronomy, you don't want too powerful a laser since it will be bright enough to ruin your night vision. Even a 5-10mW green is adequate for telescope pointing.

I had an "executive" 15mW from WL with the black chrome case. It was labeled 15, but it was really a freak laser. It would start up below 5mW, and gradually climb it's way up to around 110mW. Good laser, had no complaints with either of my WL, but their quality has gone down from there on out seeing other peoples response to them.

As far as the quality of WL lasers go, I have seen good and bad. I recently read about another guy on another forum who got his 35mw and he´s happy as a pig in sh*t about it. I tend to think in general though there´s a bias to hearing about the bad ones and not the good ones. For every bad experience there´s probably 25 good ones I would think, no?

In any case, time will tell as I should be receiving it within a week or so I imagine. I´ll be sure to give a review on it when it arrives as best a newbie can.

Geo - we look forward to your thought and observations regarding your new laser ! You are correct in your assumption about the ratio of good to bad - that is business basics 101, so to speak.....WL seems to stay on top of the game by righting their wrongs - the service is pretty good from what I understand. There is no way, with the volume they do that thry would be ableto pick out the forum members specifically, and "grease" them - so it is a pretty good cross section, I think....seeing all the replies, issues, etc on LC opens the eyes a tad bit. Best of luck, and make sure to post plenty of pics !

WL went down in quality and service since a few months ago. They used to be really good.

I have a 35mW Evo which I got about a month ago. I like it, but it scares the Cr*p out of me if I turn it on inside. But outside, you can see that beam forever!

Of course, I live in West LA, so we usually get fog at night, so your mileage may vary...

My 15 mW Exec is the shizznit ;D It can light matches, slice electrical tape, and sizzle anything black. 15 mW? I think not  It preforms as well and sometimes outpreforms my 75mW Dragon
