WHICH 200MW? O-LIKE or RAYFOSS? HELP ME! Video included...

I am about to order my first Laser, I initially decided on Rayfoss and his 200mw Green torch, but Rayfoss site will not be up for another day or two, so I began searching again for the heck of it.

I came across O-Like.com and heard nothing but great things about them, there Lasers, and Susie, and became really interested in there new 200mw green tranformable focusable Laser.

I chose these 2 company's and they both have good rep, ship to U.S, and are cheap (under $200).

I am now VERY undecided!!!

I am wondering, based on your opinion (s), which of these company's do you guys feel have the better quality Lasers? I came to my own conclussion that they are about even from everything I read, but I have not read everything, just enough to know they are both great on quality, being cheap, and costomer service.

Below are the 2 lasers I am having trouble deciding on. I am leaning a tad bit more towards the Rayfoss Laser as it comes with a rechargeable battery and charger. I am not sure if the O-Like Laser comes with a rechargeable battery, as there site does not say, so I'm guessing no. The Rayfoss has been reviewed 3 different times on these forums, I have yet to find a review on the O-Like Laser, until obviously finding the one below on YouTube, which the kid seem very UN-knowledgeable.

Please help me decide, I am VERY split on this one!!!

P.S. I am buying my goggles just to let ya guys know I am big into safety :)

THANKS! :)

^^^ Yea, thats what I'm leaning towards.

Any more input on why? Seems as if you feel Ray has the better quality lasers?

I read comments that I took as the Rayfoss Lasers being overly fragile, is this true?

Thanks man

P.S. I wish I knew how to Embed video instead of just posting the link. I am a member at many other forums and embeding the video here does not work as it does everywhere else. I looked through the FAQ sheet on this forum and it does not explain how to embed video, just pictures, etc. If a MOD reads this, can you PLEASE help me with this problem? THANKS! :)

I would go with rayfoss, but that is only because I have had experiance with rayfoss and not o-like. From what I have read, both companies sell lasers of equal quality, and which ever one you order I am sure you will be very happy. It is really down to weather you want to wait for rayfoss to come back online or order now from o-like?

You read my mind man! Yea, it is kinda that way, either wait for Ray or order from O-Like.

I gotta admit, as time went on I became very intrigued by the O-Like Laser video review I posted, seems pretty powerful as it is lighting matches that are lighter in color then I normally see being lit, this tells me it has some good power. It seems to be lighting matches quicker then the Rayfoss, but that just may be me being picky eye'd :)

WaterFace: I did check-out that Laser you mentioned, the only dfference I found between the 2 was that the Laser you Mention rates at 200-175mw out-put, compared to the one I posted which rates 200-180mw out-put.

This told me that the one I posted about has a tad bit (very very very little) more out-put power based on the average, but I'm sure it's so minuscule to where you would not even notice, they are equal in strength.

Have no worries, the Laser you ordered I'm sure uses the same inner-workings, I would look at the review I posted as being that of the Laser you ordered, your laser will do the same as what you see in the video! :)

@ waterface - all the pics in my review were with the beam unfocused (set to minimum divergance) although I did move my hand slightly when taking a couple of the pics so the beam looks fatter in some...it looks thinner than most of the pics in person...:)

@ EtherMagic - lol, I had the same dilemma when I was choosing mine...I know how you feel...:D

Yes i think its a minuscule difference! The one i ordered being 175-200 & the one with the star patterns being 180-200 & i talked to Susie & she said mine would be 177 but i think they peak at a higher mW i think!

Maybe i'm daft, but i like the sheen of the black in contrast to the stickers as well, it looks classy!

I'm wondering about the beam diameter when focused out, i guess the pics of Dusty's laser with the beam high into the sky is with the beam focused out so there is the divergence as opposed to focused in where the beam would be think & to a dot!

oops Dusty, i thought divergence was when the beam gets bigger the further away from the unit it gets? & as you focus it, the beam gets narrower? The video in the 1st post, shows a very narrow beam when shone out of window!

yeh divergance is when the beam gets bigger the further away it is from the laser...In my pics the laser is at its minimum divergance so it is focused for infinity (or as close to as this laser can get). There will still be divergance of the beam on this setting, but much less. When it is focused to burn at close range (the focal point is approx 10-15cm in front of the laser), the dot appears much larger at a distance...I hope this makes sense...:)

Sorry Dusty, i thought this was your review, i got them mixed up

http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/rayfoss-200-mw-green-focusable-torch-46742.html

On your review, the pic where the beam hits the wall radiator is very wide, is that unfocused?

In the above link, the beam that is shone from the window outwards is also very wide! I guess this is unfocused too!

If i was to aim into the night sky when fully focused, the beam would still go as far, but it would be a lot narrower, but better focusing concentrates it down for short distance burning if thats right?

I also noticed that the sticker says output 1mW, is this how they are sent to avoid issues?
Was yours sent with a sticker saying 1mW ?

Well Rayfoss website is back-up and running, and I cannot find the 200mw green Laser that I have been waiting to order (and that has been reviewed 3 different times on these forums)! :(

Maybe they are still building on the site from it being down, I may have no choice but to go with the O-Like :(

I am going to contact Ray and see why it is not listed.

As I mentioned I did move my hand slightly when taking a couple of pics, and because they were taken with approx a 6 second exposure, the beam does appear wider in the pics than it actually is...All my pics were taken with the beam set to 'infinity', rather than set to burn at close range...

EDIT: the laser came with a 1mW sticker onit, but with the 200mW sticker in the box...

There are many Youtube videos that show lasers of all mW's, some 20's look brighter than some 100's, it all depends on the camera & angles etc!
Dusty's & the other one in the looks really good!

In the 1st video here, where the guy points the laser at the bed, the beam hardly changes, but the dot gets a lot smaller when he focuses it so i guess when shining into sky, the divergence is bigger when set at fully unfocused!

Are all lasers shipped with a 1mW sticker on them fro O-like & with one in the box?

I read that at 300ft, the diameter of the dot is 8ft?? Thats terrible! I have a 1mw red Plus laser pointer that has a dot the size of a pea at 3000ft

^^^To answer just one of your questions, I never heard of O-Like placing a 1mw sticker on Box, I only heard of Ray doing this (but then again I havnt been around here that long either, I could be wrong). I'm sure Susie would do so if this was asked of her.

What Country do you live in waterface? U.S I'm guessing?
