my x-125 just arrived earlier tonight. freekin awesome.
my first test was a sharpied wood match that lit up within seconds.
i'll get to do some experiments tonight at work.

133mw average
135 peak

seems kinda low compared to others, but at least it's not the other way around

pictures and video coming soon

i have one experiment in mind that i don't believe that it has been done or shown yet.

i just did a check on the divergance, using pseudonomen's calculator..
approximately 120 feet, i get a dot of 2 inches (viewed with goggles)

the calc says it's 1.38 mRad...is that too high?

i did some testing

balloon pop at 7 feet
"sharpied" match light at 3 feet and that was pretty close to maxing out the duty cycle...2 feet was no problem with time to spare

is this typical of nova's x125?

Nah, contrary to what the spec sheets like to boast, 1.5-2.0mRad is pretty typical for a lot of CNI black/gold units.

I guess it would depend on the type of match. My X105 will light a non-sharpied safety match instantly at about 2 feet.

my avatar is of a friend's "20mw weapon laser sight" off of ebay. it is brighter than a standard laser pointer. we are both on the roofs of the buildings we work at. i do have a pic of a direct hit into the lens, which looks pretty cool.

my first test was using the small wood matches (they weren't strike anywhere). 1 foot unsharpied and 3 feet sharpied...2 feet sharpied was easy, all on a new set of energizer lithiums
i can't even do 2 feet with blackened strike anywhere matches, using 900 mah rechargeable energizers on a full charge.

i just don't think this one is performing as well as it should and like others.

I would contact Nova and find out what they have to say. My matches are the strike anywhere ones, and like I said it does light them instantly non-sharpied. This is with Eneloop nimh batteries.

It seems like there are quite a few having problems with the X series lately, and as we know Nova does take good care of its customers. But the hassle of RMA'ing a laser is a pain. I do hope they spend more time testing the lasers before sending them out.

i sent an email to nova early this morning.

also, i have seen others report that their average and peak are higher.
x105's doing 115 and peaking in the 120's for example.
mine is listed as 133 average / 135 peak

there should be a thread on lmember's laser ratings

i would be willing to rma it.

Mine was rated at 122mw's peak and 119 average. But according to my LPM-1, it has peaked as high as 138mw's. It only does it when it is having a good day.. ;D Otherwise it will always peak at 128mw's.

One thing to remember is the laser does have a warm up period. All of them will vary a bit but I would try letting the laser warm up for 30 seconds, then try lighting the strike anywhere match. Make sure the laser and match are held perfectly still, and try it from a foot away.

I am posting my graph. If you take the numbers at the bottom and divide by 2, you will have the appx. seconds. I think the laser had been on for about 10 seconds before I started the graph.
