1 watt green handheld unit

Sorry to clarify: this particular unit (with the 3W diode) is a 725mw model... however he also can produce a 1000mw unit, but not sure what diode that one uses.

Does 725mw sound pretty close for a 3W diode?

You're talking about 25% efficiency their my rpl 450 with the diode running at 2W because it's an under driven 2.5W diode only has an efficiency of 22.5% now given it peaks at 581 giving it a 29% efficiency peak and 22.5% efficiency average.... say you manage to get the same very high quality crystals with a 3W diode you should achieve 725 occasionally

It's most likely the total output without an IR filter. While I have seen crystals with nearly a 50% effieciency in very rare cases, in general they are ~20%. The rare cases certainly do not allow for a retail production model to be sold in any quantity either.

It would be neat to see one of these tested. However seems like yet another scam. Laser devices tend to be one of the most scamed items, esepcially on E-Bay...er E-Pray...

That laser pointer with the 3W pump has been brought up on Photonlexicon a few times, and people have reported/contacted the seller, but he just keeps re listing it and flaming people who contact him about it.

Sorry can you clarify what has happened when trying to contact the seller? Is the do not buy recommendation based on him continuing to sell >1mw pointers on ebay even though he has been reported several times?

I think I will hold off on buying this for the moment... looks like what I suspected may be true.

Okay, thanks for the information Things. Probably another one of those general sellers who don't realise that we have the equipment to verify this stuff.

I'll talk to him for a bit, but I'll almost certainly not purchase anything (and if I do, I'll make sure I can return it).

Out of curiosity, do you have a link to those threads at PL? I wouldn't mind reading for myself what other people found with the units.

My email seems to of got no reply. To make sure he didn't just think I was some laser noob and scam me I made sure to be smart with my email, discussing different companies and other clever laser things, as well as my laser power meter. I think he decided I wasn't worth the trouble, LOL

He did take around half a week t reply to me, but then I had a good email chat with 8+ emails in about an hour. But you're probably right

I have seen this Melborne guy on ebay for years but never had any contact. He has however at least a few years back, done alot of biz with Chris L.(Heruursciences)so maybe he can shed some light on him. He also gets/got many items from SurplusShed. He has no recent neg feedbacks but did a while back-- some of which were due to an accident. good luck--hak

Yeah definitely not 1 watt, but that doesn't necessarily mean its a bad laser. I still would be wary of this guy

I too want a genuine 1 watt 532nm green hand held pointer and talked to "Chuck" at Aixiz Service International and as best I can remember he quoted me a price of 1175 U.S. Dollars for the 1 watt version and 750 dollars for a 500mw green version. Paul must be having a bad day. It's a tough business, lasers.

I don't own any SKYlasers, but I've seen both good and bad reviews, with good being predominant in my mind. You should take him up on his offer to test a unit. If it's quality, we'll know and we'll let people know..
