Yet another Laser Power Meter Thread

Right ok, I understand that all these cool looking laser power meters with lots of features and such are good and work perfectly and the fact they cost money to build but I really can't justify spending just over £140 for the laserbee1... Especially as I only have 5 lasers which I will only ever need to test once I just cant see the long term benefit of buying one.

Whats cheaper? Theres got to be something...

since you mentioned the LaserBee I... I thought I'd respond....

There are DIY LPM threads all over the Forum...
There is Nimrod's DIY project.. that has died out because the Coherent heads
now cost too much(~$700.00)

There is Benm's LPM Gauge project... that is still on going... and is not expensive
to build...

There are used LPMs on eBay.... but you need to wait for a bargain..

There are used Kenometer and used LaserBee I's available right here on LPF from
time to time...

You could even design one yourself........

When it comes right down to it.... If you want to know the Wind Speed...
you can stick a wet finger into the air to let you know if the wind is blowing
and whether it is a strong wind or not.....
OR
You can use an Anemometer and get a correct reading of wind speed....
The choice is yours...

in my opinion

u only realy need a power meter if u repair lasers or uses them every day or do lasershows.
Its just a handy but expensive tool when u just own a couple of pointers.

How ever the Laserbee power meter is a very good and affordable choice.
Use the coherent power check my self at the moment
