just wondering if this is worth it 300mW+650nm Red High Power Laser Diode Module Kit Glass - eBay (item 270535670214 end time Feb-28-10 21:04:56 PST) this will be my second build if i buy it. ps My first thread on this forum! if you know of a better kit or cheeper alternitive or something please share.

That's a nice kit, but you can do this cheaper by harvesting a diode from a DVD burner and using an Aixiz "module" (The tube with the lens in it) plus a few parts from radio shack.

The forum has tutorials on how to extract the diode, and there are folks on here selling the modules.

You could have your whole project completed before that kit ever arrived from Korea.

P.S. sometimes you can get DVD burners removed from service at PC repair shops for free, never hurts to ask.
