"The NIF laser set-up pulses for 20 billionths of a second. For that time, it generates about 500 trillion watts"

Does Laserbee make a LPM that will handle this ??   :-/

That was interesting. The video was pretty good except for the very last shot at the end; the hydrogen pellet shouldn't burn up; it "fuse", producing heavier and heavier molecules (theoretically, until it gets to iron, which is when the payout is less than the energy requirement)

Joking aside, you need a special kind of power meter to measure pulse energy. Else, you'll probably burn up the sensor over time and get average power only which is likely to be small.

You are a bit wrong.
It says;
Scientists have been working to achieve self-sustaining nuclear fusion and energy gain in the laboratory for more than half a century. When the National Ignition Facility (NIF) begins ignition experiments at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in 2010, that long-sought goal will be much closer to realization.

in 2010 not 2009!
