WL & LC Comercial Prize?

I remember about 6 months back their was a big contest that was posted on the LC boards. If you made a good commercial for Wicked Lasers they would send you their new Spyder III for free. (Which was supposed to be the most bad ass laser ever *so they claim* ) Hundreds of people made their own videos, most of em were people burning things and popping balloons but some of em were good, but nobody ever got the prize and after like two months the post of the contest was deleted and people who asked about it were banned. Their is still no Spyder III on their website and no information on the internet about it.

Anybody else remember this or know anything about it? I really wanted to see what the Spyder III would look like, how overpriced it would have been and the outrageous claims.

"The universes most powerful handheld laser" LOL... ::)

I did the contest, didn't remove the videos, and did not get anything from them...

Yeah I remember that. As I recall the guy who won the contest got tired of waiting for his Spyder III and took a Spyder II instead. Then he came over to this forum and was trying to sell it in the BST section. That was like 3+ months ago.

WL=FAIL. Nothing more and nothing less.

I was a runner up in the contest and won a Executive 35mw laser. It broke two months later. :)

I don't see what's wrong with a guy trying to sell a >400mW laser for less than $1,000. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, even if it was made by Wickedliars.

It was tested independently at 400mW+. The main problem with the Spyder II is they are underpowered. That one certainly wasn't, so with the key problem solved there wasn't much wrong with it.

A cool looking, waterproof 400mW+ laser? Get over all this "it is WL so it MUST be bad" crap and you realise that's a decent laser there. Even if a company does have such a terrible reputation, at least have the open mind to see something pretty awesome once it's been independently verified.

But I digress...

I entered a video in the competition. Most damn original one too, I staged a little mock infomercial. Everyone else just set fire to things or pulled out their best video editing special effects tool. Pfft.

And as for the Spyder III, that thing should of come out ages ago. Their development process probably involved the management going "We're going to make the best damn laser ever!!!" and the engineers looking at what management wanted and laughing at them, so management quietly forgot about it.

For just under 1000$ a cool looking and maybe waterproof 400mW over spec laser. That's a good deal and I would have bought it but you have to remember that most Spyder II are all under spec. The only reason they give him a good one was because everybody knew he was the contest winner and if he posted a bad review that would really suck for them but when your average Joe or Jane Doe buys one, it turns out like this.

I don't think so, the guy went on ebay or something to sell it. BTW after thinking further I go back on my comment above. I would not buy it even if it was over spec at 400mW+ unless it was for 400$ or less. Why? Sounds like a good deal? Wrong, probably cheep WL build quality that will break down in a month or two, given just enough time to live so the owner can make a good review. I would also bet money that its not waterproof as they claim and probably has a limited duty cycle unlike other lasers for that price that have an unlimited one.
