Hey guys, before I destroy my Wii for the laser, I have a few questions:thinking:. Will the Wii's laser diode work on a homemade flashlight host pointer? Anyone tried getting Wii's laser diode? Thanks.:D

If I'm not mistaken the Wii uses a DVD diode and not a lower wavelength Blu-ray diode. Considering the price of the Wii vs the price/availability of good DVD diodes I see no reason to destroy a Wii to extract the diode. Anyways I don't know if anyone here has any data about how high these diodes can be driven and you might end up killing it.

If for some odd reason you really wanted a Wii laser, you could buy one of these
$9.43 - Repair Parts: Replacement Laser Module for Wii Console - Wii Accessories

Unless your Wii is broken and you want to trash it, I say this is a no go.

If you're bent on having a red DVD laser, you can get something the strength of a reader in a 5mW red laser pointer.

If you want something the strength of a burner, you can buy diodes and completed modules from places like hightechdealz.com, modwerx.com, and aixiz.net - or you can buy a completed build from a member here.

On an unrelated note, hello fellow Virginian. :D
