Hello, I have these lasers that are meant to be 1mW and they look very bright and they have a very strong beam even at day light so I think they ARE ACTUALLY NOT 1mW. and they can even light matches so I wanted to get a power meter, and also I am building lasers and want to be able to measure them.

They are not 1 mW, do a search on overspec ebay pen lasers. WRT to the power meter also try searching for Laser power meter or LPM. There are many threads dealing with them. Please try searching before posting, these topics have been covered in depth numerous times. :beer:

IF you want to OWN a good meter at a great price ( IE will hold its value if & when you want to sell it) please PM me and I will point you=


BUT please ALSO tell us about your eye protection- you should get the best you can afford- even if they are just 'OK'=- save up- get better later and use your old ones for 'guest googles' you WILL need these so WHY put buying them off?? makes no sense. hope you already have them

Yeah so I bought eagle glasses they work very well.

But yeah I want to own a good laser meter so where can I bu one for a good price :)

yeah i have same, its more or less same brightness as my old 40mw WL pen.. crazy.

I purchased a Radiant electronics x4 LPM for 100$ and am very happy with its performance.

A good LPM is going to be expensive. These are the facts of life. You can get individual pieces from
ePay and put them together, but it is a lot of work. Even then it's still pretty expensive.

Definitely not 1mw maybe more like 20mw at least. I would wear goggles while using them if I were you.

Seems like people really like to talk down to folks and assume the worst here. I understand being cautious, but it feels more like folks getting a kick out of being "superior" in some way.

Dude in the OP asked a straight forward question and even stated he was skeptical of the rated power. Giving him the information that he asked for would actually help him be a safer laserer, but this thread took the same direction they almost always take here. Only person that even tried to answer him here in this thread was Rifter.

He said he would like to build (EDIT, accidentally typed "sell") lasers. He didn't offer to sell any or provide links to any place where he is selling them. No offense has yet been committed. If he said he wanted to help injured and sick people, would you get your panties in a bunch and start yapping about him not being a licensed doctor?

Well they do have a point in the whole being 18 thing. Selling/buying to/from anyone under 18 is against the TOS for this forums(am I the only one who actually read that wall of text when I signed up?)

That said I DO agree with you that sometimes the people here can be OVERLY DEFENSIVE to the point it could be seen as being OFFENSIVE.

However in my short time here I am learning that is probably because the world is crashing down on us laser enthusiasts, we are being backed into a corner by governments around the world bringing in these completely stupid laser laws instead of doing the logical thing which would be educating people on the safe use of lasers. And we both know when you back someone into a corner bad things happen.
