I have an 250mw green laser, but it doesnt always light a match. Only a few times, after the laser is being on for a while then it begins to light matches very fast but after sometime it stops burning, even if i put the match very close to the laser it doesnt ignite, i guess the power goes weak? Is my laser broken? i got it today and i think 250mw is strong enough to light a match ALWAYS.

Thanx for any help.

You can't have it on constantly, it does need to cool down. Duty cycle is how long you should have it on and then how long you need it to cool

Does the laser have a focusing lens?
You have to find the lasers sweet spot. You have to find were the beam converges. to get the most heat from the beam.
Shine it on a dark wall. Move back and forth until you see the spot get as small as possible. That would be the ideal distance for igniting things.

Yeah it might have gone out of focus, what batteries are you using they might be a problem, don't know too much but those are things to think about

Most likely the laser is just way below spec and very unstable, as most cheap DPSS lasers are.

If you hold the match too close, you may get smoke or worse on the output lens. Is the dot still small at around 10 feet?
I've owned a DL95 for about 3 years and it just now lit a match at 12".
