What equipment do you want to see developed?

I am an electronics equipment designer. I am new to the laser field. On reading this forum I found many people are searching for products to use with their lasers, products that
1. don't exist
2. they exist but are difficult to use as the product requires much technical knowledge or modification. Sometimes they require learning some new software.

So tell me what products you would like to see on the market, if there is a demand I would like to make it. When describing please avoid unfamiliar acronyms as my expertise is in electronics but I am new to the laser field.

Even if a product is available it is difficult to use due to poor documentation or its features fall short. I want to know about these products too.

A Affordable Laser Power Meter, if you made something that maybe wasnt Exactly correct (Maybe a few Milliwatts Off) but allowed someone to see if they're 200mW Pointer was actually somewhere between 195-205mW then in my opinion that would be something many people would want, but i dont actually know the specifics of these devices so im not even sure whats possible, just an idea i guess :)

I want a graphitti machine you could just attach any laser pointer to. Just type the words or simple graphic into your phone and let it graphitti onto a wall or fog

It's pretty cool but that one still requires calibration to be of any use for laserists. And I have serious doubts a DVD diffraction grating can be accurate - the lines are round, after all.

The problem with calibration is that you'd need several monochromatic sources that don't drift around. I have 473nm, 532nm, 589nm and 632nm, but I doubt that's enough.

I searched ebay for them, too many devices are listed as laser power meters so that search didn't work out.

What are the currently available ones that hobbyists use, and their price?

Also what shortcomings do you see with them?, other than price.

Type in laserbee power meter on Google or ebay. Ophir makes the best heads IMO they are just so dam expensive! Jbouer is the guy that makes the laserbee, check out his stuff so you can get an idea

Off topic here but if I were you I'd add a location and fill in your profile!

He's way better off waiting for the new Radiant LPM made by ARG. It should be up for sale soon.

I agree! I'll be buying one as soon as it's available! I was just trying to point him in the direction from his question!

I looked at laserbee power meter on ebay. In what ways does the Radiant LPM made by ARG improve on what is available now, what will the price of this new one be?

Nobody actually knows yet. I think it's going to be capable of reading up to 5watts, they are usually very expencive. I'd love to see one hit the forums for under 350$

Night vision/thermal vision selectable compact strap on goggles like Archer wears in the cartoon, or multiple sensor ccd like the CP concept, while you're at it make them lcd screen with digital magnification. Oh, and super affordable would be awesome...Thanks ;)
Later we will talk about encrypted wireless linking so you can see what your team members are looking at in other locations.

While we are having fun how about incorporate them into a bullet resistant helmet with peripheral view and rear view cam with a heads up type overlay, so you can see forward and behind yourself at the same time.

Why would we want such a thing you may ask...night time paint ball of course.
There is a huge market, even hunters could use them and hell, I bet the military might even buy a few to play around with.

A half decent USB spectrometer (~2nm resolution).
Something like this, but sold at $200 already calibrated.

What's the point of imprecise spectrometers? It's not like you're going to spectro 405nm pen and find out it's actually 589nm...

So unless you're recording huge wavelength shifts from cooling a LD or a dye/Ti:Sapph then I don't really see the point.
