The way I think about it...
You can either waste hours of your life doing something you enjoy or you can waste hours of your life doing something you don't enjoy.

I do plenty of both.

Well, for one I design and built my own high powered LED fixtures for reef tanks, night clubs, etc. Laser based fixtures are next.

It also helps I volunteer for two animal shelters with about 150 free roaming cats between the two.

You have no idea what it's like to walk into a room with 35 cats bored out of their minds, and then firing up a 40mW greenie. You become the most important thing in the universe - instantly.

No, but you can blind them, knock them out, tie them up, and throw them in your car's trunk for later, uninterrupted enjoyment. :shhh:

The beams are pretty, and it is a great way to learn more about electronics.

There are not too many other things you can use laser "pointers" for. If you went on PL and asked the same question, you'd get a much different response.

I got mine simply because I like unique things and I feel a 500mW+ handheld will soon be illegal to buy. I do have fun shutting off my street lights. Also, nightime photography just got more fun for me.
