What do you guys think of making a video that talks about laser safety?

Seeing all this talk about proposed laser legislation has got me thinking about an idea involving a video project that would be informative about the true dangers of lasers when it comes to using them and what they can really do to pilots of planes. The video could also go into detail about laser terms like mw and nm and describe why safety goggles are important. Perhaps this point can be driven across by showing pictures of scarred eye tissue from lasers and explaining how the permanent vision loss can be caused in milliseconds. For the plane idea I was thinking if we could use a sensitive camera on a remote control helicopter and adjust the divergence on the laser to match it from a much farther distance. We could then maybe edit the video and emphasize how the light messed up the rendering of all other lights and we could also show images from those FAA simulations. I know some of this may sound tedious and ridiculous , but if we could educate people they may educate others about this and EVEN if we stop 50 people we will still do some good and who knows one of those 50 or so people may be the one that would finally drive the nail in the coffin for lasers. We'd have to spread this far and wide and I'd be able to help with that, but I need some people who are good with making videos. Please discuss this in this topic and don't just let it die. We all want to be able to enjoy lasers and every little thing can INFACT help and this CAN make the community look good.

We need not make any one video.

We all need to absolutely flood youtube with them.

Title them with the words "laserscope" "lighting match" "kipkay" "burning laser" "wicked lasers" "arctic" "green laser".

If we can get 25 people to make videos, there's a greater chance that we can get the right message across as long as such videos are consistent with the information, the correct information.

Then we can place an LPF watermark, and trademark symbol before and after each video, directing people to a place where laser safety can be learned about!

Exactly what I was thinking, but we DON'T and I repeat DON"t want to get portrayed in the negative light as spammers cause once we do it will be hard for us to get our reputation back. That's why I didn't mention it.

Well I did.

If its for the safety of laser users everywhere, and for the better of the laser professional, or laser hobbiest, the project would be justified. We're not selling anything, just spreading the word and providing a place for the uneducated to go.

I think it's a good idea, there are far to many vids of people burning stuff, popping baloons, lighting matches etc but hardly and safety advice is given.

I was considering making a video about my 445, I'll make sure to throw in a good amount of laser safety and some cool burning stuff together. Show people what a laser can do to match and explain the same thing can happen to your retina.

Ill post it here when I'm done.

We need to make Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages/channels. And in the tags for the video, make it say things like hot girls or stuff like that too. You can explain in the description that those are only so the video gets more views. I live 5 min from John Boehner (too bad he's never home to talk to lol jk).
Much as I hate to say it, we need to ask people like Kipkay to help us make laser safety videos. He did mention laser safety in a couple of his newer laser videos. If he likes lasers a lot, he might help us.
We should also ask shane dawson and philip defranco. Even one video by phil (if he agreed to help us) would have over a MILLION views in like a week or two. If we were able to get help from some of the biggest youtube names, we would be able to spread the word all across America within days, hours, or even minutes.
The world today relies on social internet sites like youtube and facebook and we need to use those resources AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. We can make a specific channel on youtube called laserpointerforums or laserhobbyists or whatever. We can make many videos based on laser safety starting with airplanes, then another video on safety glasses, another about pointing at all other vehicles, and another about pointing around or towards people. The possibilities are endless.
If we decide to make a youtube channel I would help as much as i could to add videos but since i am in high school, i'm quite busy.
sorry about not capitalizing and using perfect punctuation; i'm just trying to type this up as quickly as possible.

Kipkay? He helped screw the whole thing up, I don't think he is willing to help.
Interesting point, tho. :)

I know he did, but he could also be a big help to us if we could get him to stress safety with lasers in one video specifically talking about them.

I think its worth a try, If he wants his viewers to not go blind and keep watching him then maybe he'll be smart enough to put a little bit of emphasis on safety, if he doesn't want to then we lose nothing.
