The emitter would be huge, you would get a NUBM44 kind of beam, worse! But I'd expand that baby and bring the divergence down, bring it on!

It's a NUBM44 with a 4.5a SXD running 2 x 26650 IMR cells, a 3 element lens and a 3X BE in a MX-900 FL host with my own round aluminum heat sink.
This is an easy setup for people who want an to make 30 foot burner out of the very divergent 44, by burner I mean it will ignite paper out to 30 feet, something I use as a benchmark, also the night time beam can be focused to a good looking point rather than that sky rake.

This pic I just now took, it's hitting the tree line about 175 yards ( est. ) away as I try to avoid the sky for the most part theses days, that's why you see the termination spot glow/illumination, all in all it's a pretty clean beam, I set my 3 element focus to a line at 20 feet that's not a sharp focus but about 1/4 - 1/5 of a square and it works well like that, people can experiment but if you focus the 3 element sharp you get a line with a fuzzy box under it as the BE works on both axis.

Beautiful, awesome when you expand the beam some and with the ability to focus down to a burning spot, nice! When you going to build a PBS dual NUBM44?

I bought a cheap PBS cube but I think I will order a better one and likely that's going to be my next build, I will use a wave plate as well because I would like to use a BE after combining the 2 diodes, I would like to find a slightly larger BE, something about 2 inches across the front lens and 5X power or so would be great.

I made a 65 dollar offer on this one but they countered with 85, I should ask about the coating and dimensions but I think I want one bigger, if someone else buys it that's cool, it's likely 1064nm coated.

I have bought a couple of duds so I'm getting picky now, it looks pretty cool but I get the idea it's like 30mm wide and I want 50mm for a 5X.

That would be awesome, for burning the wave plate could sure intensify that beam into one doubled up spot! I've been talking to CDBEAM777 about building one too, but he is so back logged as it is with other peoples projects, you could probably have a one of a kind for awhile.

I have ordered a NUBM44-81 diode from DTR and I want to test it's spot size and see how it burns at 4.75 amps, I would think that as a diode is manufactured over time that they get better and better and I expect these could be a little hotter, I read on another site where someone said they were getting 8 watts out of the 81's at usual current which I expect is 4.5a

I would like to use 2 of these PBS cube combined with a larger expander. They are only 10 bucks more to buy.

That's it, just a 3 element and the 3X BE.

Just screw your 3 element into the little adaptor and screw that into your laser and get your focus set, about a 1/4 square at 20 feet is fine, you will need to shim behind the adaptor or you can loosen your 12mm module set screw and push the 12mm module into your heat sink so it's basically countersunk the amount you would be shimming, I back out a 1/4 turn, push it in, tighten the set screws and use that 1/4 turn to take up the thread slack when I do it that way, in this pic it is shimmed with washers, it's not critical. Then simply screw on your 3X BE into the adaptor, this set up gives amazing burning results, it even works on the Gballs that make a rectangle at 20 feet or so.

I have not polished the front but here it is.





Here's a NUBM06 with the GBall intact that prints about a 6 x 30 mm rectangle at 20 feet, I just added the 3X BE using an emptied out 3 element barrel as a connector and a couple washers so it wouldn't crush the GBall. NOTE not all NUBM06 diodes have this GBall's focus, but with a NUBM44 and 3 element you're golden.

Red, how wide is the beam of your NUBM44 when collimated to infinity with a G2? I'm trying to figure out how wide the input lens needs to be on a beam expander for that diode. Got to be under 6 mm, if using a G2 collimation lens, of course.

I'm using a DTR G-2, OPT Laser 6X Cylindrical Lens Pair and my Custom Made Beam Expander w/Jetlaser Output Lens, The beam is only 13mm x 10mm at the beam expander and i can focus it to a tight, thin line on both axis's in the sky !

Yes def under 6mm.....

I know that the NUBM44 with a DTR G2 focuses to a 2 inch long line at 15 feet, I'm not sure what you are asking about infinity, I have no way to measure that, I will say that it is worth using the 3 element in this set up, the G2 will not burn as well because it's focal length is so short.

I have been using 3 elements with this expander a lot and it works great.

I read your question correctly this time, yes the 6X cyl corrected beam exits at about 6mm by 1.5mm, it's a ribbon of blue, but the expander input opening needs to be 7mm.

You're exactly right, RC! The 2017 blocks I've been getting are hitting 7.8-8.5 all around!
