Seriously, WTF? Is LPF that badly in need of money? :-/
I say we just ignore it. I know that might be difficult for some, but this place is the best source for the type of information for this hobby I have seen. It would be a real shame to loose it.

Can we tout the good brands and hope people will read and buy based on positive reviews instead of a banner?

Maybe these concerns would be best addressed via a PM to c0ld. Let him decide...although he seems to have done that by placing the ad... :-/

Fair enough. Its just a bit depressing to come back and find our standards have had to degrade to this level, but if we must, we must.

People come to these forums to get an opinion about lasers.

It would kind of defy the point of coming here if you just came, saw an ad, and didn't post a thread asking about it or didn't search :-/

That's why that ad is at the bottom of the page (At least for me it is).

If ads for companies that do not belong to the three premium ones are necessary to generate $$ for LPF then so be it.  :)

After all, even the best marketing cannot change the true quality of a product:

Read the "Thanks for helping a scammer" topic, there are quite a few people who thought the same thing as you. ;D

ROFL at the Pepsi guy drinking a coke! ;D I was kinda confused about some of the disreputable laser ads on LPF too, but who the heck am I to say anything about it? I just assumed, maybe they have improved their customer service to an acceptable level and I missed that thread! But yeah, a newbie could really be, I guess you could say swindled or ripped-off, just because they wouldn't expect to see ads of laser companies that can't be trusted on a forum that was partially dedicated to the purpose of exposing those types of businesses. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I think the heart of the problem is that any ad appearing on a laser enthusiast site will be seen as having a "stamp of approval" by said laser enthusiasts, creating a false sense of confidence.

But the other side of the argument has it's merits too. Do what is necessary to keep LPF up and running!

I'm pretty sure LPF has easily raked in to cover c0ld's legal fees + pay off some of his bills.
