Warning: Dangerously Overspec Ebay Lasers

We've all seen those green lasers on Ebay, but they are only 10mW overspec. There is a huge problem I found on Ebay, there is a Chinese Seller selling "5mW" 405nm Laser pointers for only $6.23, and I deicide to pick one up for one of my friends for Christmas. After weeks of waiting, the little laser comes in. I put some batteries in it and my laser glasses and look on my 2.1 watt laserbee, and I go "HOLY S***!" It peaks at 71mW, and man, that scared me. I quickly want on my computer and looked how many people bought them and it says 1,011 sold. I am just warning everybody who has no Laser power meter, WATCH OUT! I am not sure if any other lasers are of that power, but if you plan on buying one of these make sure you have laser glasses. If you bought one of these and have it, put it aside unless you have laser glasses and get some before you use the laser again. I will put a link but only to show that this is the laser. Thanks for reading and I hope this waring helped everyone out

No offense to you but this isn't anything new. Just about all the crappy 5mW pens are overspec. Especially 405nm pens. 5mW of 405 is practically invisible to the naked eye. Most of the 405 pens are between 25 and 75mW in output.

I have this laser and there is no way it is over 5mW. It is incredibly weak.

EDIT: So maybe I am wrong. All I can say is that this is a weak looking laser that has a very poor divergence and is fuzzy as all heck. It DOES light up Aaron's glow-in-the-dark thinking putty really well though.

Good looking out. Most of the time I want overspec but sometimes you want "eyesafe" and 71mW is not that

That is normal for a 405, it is almost UV.

i ordered one of these laser night with the star cap. Im am so glad that this is the case, cause I was worried and still am that I won\t be able to see the 5mw beam, I was thinking I get blacklight reactive stuff to help illuminate it around the house. I was reading on some stones called uranium doped marbles.

They are up to $10.38 USD.... Still cheap for the output
and wavelength...
