I will be building a laser and auctioning it off and the proceeeds will go toward the LPF donation. I am going to give us a few choices of host and get some feedback from you guys. I cannot build a custom host right now, but I will put one together and hopefully it brings in some cash for the forum.

Diode in build will be a M-Type M140 and the plan is to drive it at 1.5-1.8A.

If you can be a part of this build and add something useful please say so. I am listing the hosts I can readily get or have on-hand to use and if I come up with something different then great.

Special thanks to Autonomousperson for supplying the diode used in this build!

Re: Vote for Host on Raffle Laser

one suggestion, make it a "plug and burn" where the wires from the driver and battery board arent connected. that way, you arent providing a complete unit. the winner can connect them if for some unknown reason they wanted to:whistle:

Re: Vote for Host on Raffle Laser

Hi,
I cast my vote for the XM-L2
This host has a large mass heat sinking, and with a X Boost set ti 1.8A with a 26650 cell for power .The largest of heat sinking capability compared to the hosts listed in the poll. With a M140 in side should be a nice build .. longer duty cycle to..

Rich:)

Thanks for your feedback guys, I appreciate it. Also I have both of these hosts ordered already! Xm-L2 is for China though so it's atleast 14 days out..

I'm liking the 501D host that is made for 2 18650's that Lifetime has found a few.
Those S4 with the extended tube also for 2 18650's are nice.
I don't see them as being under sinked at a comfy 1.6A which should give them a decent run life.

Re: Vote for Host on Raffle Laser

This is a great idea, 94Z28, and I'm sure that whatever host you decide on, will be appreciated by whoever wins!

One thing though, It's generally been considered a bad idea to use the word "raffle" for something like this, many will use something such as ra$$le, or some other alteration of the word.
This may not even be an issue anymore, I'm sure Avery, or a mod could let you know though.

I'm sure many of us will "donate" for a cause like this though. :D

Got it, I changed the title of the thread for now, hopefully this doesn't get anyone upset. I am trying to figure out if we should::

A. Have people donate straight to forum, and ask a mod or admin to give us a list of people donated.

or

B. Have a thread as an "auction" to last for exactly 24hrs and whoever has the highest bid at the end of 24hrs will get the laser, and the payment for the laser will go to LPF donation.

Me and Autonomous had already discussed this once and he agreed either way really.

I could donate/throw in a few cheap diffraction gratings if the "winner" would want.
Assuming the winner doesn't have too many gratings already. :)

Great, thanks I'll mention that in the post once the build is complete. Don't forget to vote on a host!

Yup, just voted now. Such a hard choice though, I said lab type simply because I don't have a continuous duty cycle high power laser. Really all of your options look good IMO.

I voted other. I'd like to see the laser in the new Star Trek Beyond Phaser as a host. (I might be dreaming)

Got multiple hosts incoming via mail; and still waiting on the diode from auto; and the driver/modules from DTR; and my press kit from pyro LOL. I'm gonna have a ton of packages this next few weeks....
