I have a couple of 9 led flashlights that look like this:

They say husky on the side but you can't see it in that picture.

Are these suitable hosts for axiz modules? Does anyone make heatsinks for them on the forums? I think I saw a thread where someone was selling them in kits with everything you needed but that was awhile ago. I searched around but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know where to get more of this flashlight? I got mine at homedepot but they don't sell them anymore.

There isn't even enough room for a lava driver? Great build by the way. :) Good idea with the spacers too. Is it easy to screw the laser assembly out? On the hosts I have it's very difficult to get led assembly out. I think it might be even harder once if I but a laser setup inside. I was trying to use these hosts to make a couple 405nm lasers but I'm not sure I want to do direct drive. I was hoping to protect my diodes with a driver.

Well it would depend on batteries. As I used also battery compartment, the room was so so for the heatsink, which length was dictated mostly by aixiz module. If the battery compartment was a bit shorter, or if the diode would protrude out a bit more, Flexdrive could fit in. Also the spring is a bit long, some room could be stolen from here too.
Mine host was easy to dismantle. There was aluminum ring inside the head which you could just unscrew. It's visible on that picture with disassembled 4 main parts. Then you could just pull everything out. The board with diodes, plastic reflecting piece, and the 'glass'.
Driver is surely good idea. If not for protection, you hardly get few % of battery capacity from the batteries like this.
I just wanted something really simple, and this 445nm diode is pretty tough, it can handle even reverse polarity, at least for few seconds (did that).

Btw. If Picassa web is playing with you and hiding the picture right after showing it, use the zoom in icon in the upper right corner. They play with the scripts here and then ..

I'll give it a try. If I can't shove a flexdrive in there, I'll make it driverless.

I have one made for me by GreenMechanic- he has the HS sticking out a little to give more room. IIRC we use the original battery holder w/ two 10440s and a spacer(dummy) or a jumper wire will work- lots of posts on these little huskys- some were using them to house pot-modded greens from penlasers sucesfully. RHD is looking for a host like this I have none to spare.

I don't know about anybody else, but the ones I've got have plently of room for a driver. I built a 660nm with a rckster and still had plenty of room, and another with a 100mW green module.

Here's a breakdown of the parts, and pic of how thee heatsink/pill/driver/diuode/contact board went together:
