Would a lux meter be appropriate to use to measure the amount of mW a laser produces?

Nope. Sorry. You will need a LASER power meter.

Check the Buy/Sell/Trade board. Lasersbee sells several models. Occasionally I have a used one. Beyond that you are off to eBay or paying MANY MANY dollars new from a dealer.

you but one from either a online manufacturer that sellse them for $4,000+ or from laserbee or myself. What are you lookin to spend? Cause I can tell you right now, anything less than say $175-$200 isn't going to net you much

You got meters available again, Ken?

Except for getting "lucky" on eBay, you are going to be paying >$200 for most any full LPM with calorimeter. Lasersbee does sell some smaller "modules" that can measure lower (>150mW) lasers for less than that.

I just want a small portable one. I dont need one that you hook up to your computer, and graphs and all that bs....

I just need one that when you shine a laser on it, it tells you the mW...

Remember, in electronics, smaller often times means more expensive.

Go to the Buy/Sell/Trade board and the Laser Pro Shop board and find them to read about them.

Yes I'm selling Kenometers again. Right now I'm offering the lite version which is $175 (shipping not included outside U.S.) and these will finance the development of a full fledged graphing displayed meter.

The lite version is a smaller version of the normal Kenometer. True thermopile sensor with a LED display. The box will be about half the size of a full fledged Kenometer. These are only being offered for a short time (up until Jan 1 2010) and then the full fledged version will be available beyond that. They will also incorporate a SD port that will save the graphing data onto the card and then hook it into a card reader on your PC and print otu the graph. The display unit will display a total of 5 data points on the display and renew once every second.

Sweet! I didn't realize. Someone asked me about the Kenometer just the other day. Part of my answer to the question was, "If he's got any." Now I know he does ;)

Did you invent the Kenometer?
