I was reading the newspaper today, and 6 MORE plane had to be diverted, because of RED lasers this time. Considering that laser are almost banned, this doesnt help the fact.... I am so pissed off at the @$$holes doing this, if i saw someone doing it i would take my DIY red down and show them what its like to get hit in the eye with a laser.....

eh, don't worry, we'll always be able to make them, DVD drives will never vanquish, even if they become obsolete they'll still have lasers in em.

besides, it seems more fun the more illegal it gets. ::)

No this didn't happen in the US. It was probably the same group of idiots in Australia who STILL haven't been caught be the incompetent law enforcement. Btw they were most likely using reds this time because it is much harder to track a red laser back to the source. Red lasers don't put out a huge visible green beam that gives away their location.

Well,
it's game over if the media jumps onto this bandwagon,
which it has and will continue to.

Can pilots even have retinal damage at that distance?

The worst that can happen is a few second dazzle,
no human hand can sight a plane's cockpit in mid flight steadily.

I doubt it's really as bad as people claim it to be,
they're flying on automated equipment anyway.

The only crucial part is the actual landing,
meaning the retards with lasers would have to be hiding in the bushes on the runway.

What happens is you get idiots a couple of miles past the runway shining lasers straight into the cockpit while the plane is trying to land. This makes landing very hard for the pilot because he won't be able to see the runway lights/signals properly because he will be constantly getting dazzled by the laser. In the end they need to divert the landing to another airport which wastes everyones time and money.

Actual retinal damage to the pilots eyes from a far off laser isn't too likely. Usually to cause actual damage the laserist needs to be much closer to the plane and increase his chance of being caught.

Well the sensationalised incident with the co-ordinated attack or whatever occured at Bexley which is about a 5-10 minute drive to the airport.

I wonder what mW's these guys are using, cause it's a pretty damn far distance.

I thought that airplanes used autopilot for landing too. I don't know. That's beside the point anyway. These idiots are probably unaware of the extremities of their consequences for their fun. Causing the planes to abort their landings is probably their goal and is what probably gives them their chuckle. These idiots WILL get caught. Hopefully these dimwits will up load a video of these "attacks" on you tube or my space. We should browse the net so we can find these ass holes.

Lawful excuse? I'm glad I don't live in Australia. No guns, no lasers, and soon, no sharp objects.

Who the hell is that guy seriously.

Lawful excuse = total ban.

The government isn't going to label hobbyist as a lawful excuse.

Simple...Don't get caught ;D
They can't even catch the people using lasers to harass pilots and they are supposed to catch every random person with a laser ::)

In the event that happens just go to court.

We can even use the fact that we're members of LPF as evidence we're responsible and true laser hobbyists. ;)

Re: Things not looking good for lasers right now..

Wow I can't belive that!!! Yea sure, it's hard to get caught with a penlaser in your pocket, but if you use it you can be seen pretty easily. And what's the point of carrying a laser if you can't shine it around.WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!!
Does this mean that even starpointing is over for you guys? :-/

Re: Things not looking good for lasers right now..

They might have some kind of laser user registry.

Where you can apply for a license.

God this is such a joke.

It already takes about 6 months to process a rifle license by itself.
