Haha "Techno_Junkie". You might want to edit that Danefex or Tech_Junkie might sit on ya :p

Also please argue in a different thread. This one is too good to mess up with bickering.

Damn I can't believe I wrote that instead of Tech hehehe..... *edited. Sorry TJ :na:

Which is brighter - welding light, or laser light? I've stared at welding light for like 10ish-15ish secs and got yelled at lawl.. but eh.. which is brighter eh?

Welding is a LOT brighter. If somone is welding in broad daylight that sucker will still make you see spots from 20 or 30 ft away. A powerful arc welder is a major light producer. A 445 can be hard to find in daylight at 20 or 30 ft away. Yes the dot is there and visible but it doesn't look like a little supernova like a welding arc does.

The dangers are different though, the welding arc doesn't put out just one wavelength. Both can scorch your retina barren. The welding arc gives you more warning though, while the laser lulls you in to false confidence.

I appreciate everyone's concern for safety, it is better to be on the safe side as your eyes are so precious, another thing to be careful with is shortwave UV light, rock and mineral hunters who search for fluorescence rocks and minerals often will use shortwave UV (254nm) and clear safety glasses that are specifically rated to cover UV-C should be worn when using shortwave UV light.

(sorry if this is somewhat off topic, but safety is so important and since safety was being discussed I wanted to add info about safety with shortwave UV)

Lol, i think people take lasers too serious, reallym i dont see anything to be afraid of. Dont let others touch the laser. Make sure when you click that power button on where that beam will shine. Wear glasses when laser is close and on brighter surfaces. The highest power ive seen, 5mW ROFL...

but anyways ill look into it more and check stuff out.. thx.
If it helps any, the light spot of my 1W Spyder Arctic S3 (before I broke it) upon my driveway made of rocks looked like a welding torch in use.

You don't want to look at it without the proper goggles to filter out the wavelenth of the laser. X_x
