Hello,

I am currently wielding (haha) an Aries 125mW laser and am looking to upgrade. After a while of research i thought i had concluded on purchasing the RPL 350 instead of the Hercules 300.

However something just hit me...the RPL only has a 72% duty cycle. Since my aries was my first laser i guess i kind of dont know any different.

SO my question is: Are non-100% duty cycles a pain? like do your find yourself waiting too much for them? Is the extra 50mW worth a non-100% duty cycle.

I just dont know what its like and i would really appreciate your opinions and experiences.

Also for the duty cycles do you have to be precise? like bust out the stopwatch? or just close enough during the waiting periods?

thanks alot,
austin

You just have to be close. Though it's not like they'll just explode or die if the duty cycle isn't followed religiously. Generally the worst that happens is that power falls off until it cools off.

I appreciate the 100% duty cycle on my 445s but that is only when I am doing some engraving or taking beamshot pics.
If you want a longer runtime you can throw the laser in the freezer for a few minutes beforehand ;)

I am getting an easy 5 minutes with no noticeable heat buildup.
The host is such a close fit to the heatsink that you have to leave it on, sitting on the table for at least 10 mins to get any appreciable heat buildup.
As soon as you pick it up, you become the heatsink for the host and it cools off again ^_^
