It doesn't seem to have its own special symbol!

...so I made one:

Should we start using this symbol to differentiate between LEDs and LASERs?

Not bad....:gj:

How about using a small sinusoidal wave (showing a single
wavelength) in place of the 2 right angle bars...

Yeah like Jerry said..

Something to emphasise the radiation emission (simulated).

Uhm, there was a symbol, for laser diodes, similar to leds, but a little different, in one of my libraries ..... let me check.

EDIT: found these ones:

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of radiation.

I chose two right angle bars because that implies that the light waves are "in step" or "in phase", such as what happens with laser light.

Well as far as I know, nobody seems to be using that symbol so we still have a chance to make one we like.

As far as i remember (but i can be wrong, i've read it a lot of times ago), was choosen that symbol for emphasize the fact that the light was coherent (horizontal arrows, parallel to the plane, opposite to "generic" light emission indicated from inclinated arrows for leds), and that the light emitted is polarized (the horizontal bar across the diode symbol).

Well, i don't know what the inventor was thinking, so that may also be correct :p
