Laser projectors are already on the market from some time, they just are reserved for very high specialized uses and have absurd prices ..... like this one, as example ..... :p :D

Very exciting times indeed! A little worrisome, but exciting:beer:

We can only all hope we are ready for power output levels like these...

I know many members of LPF are having safety thoughts/concerns about the new 445nm
blues, some are even saying the 445nm diodes should be treated like a weapon near their 1 watt capibility.

With outputs from this projector at a minimum of five times that for each wavelength...

Good luck to all and I hope everyone is especially safe about it when these become available at reasonable prices... :undecided:

I just love Sony ! From the first walkman in the 70's to the first high powerd laser projector for the home,...:)

My 185mW 532nm is strong enough for me, the WL 445nm would be able to be near as visible as this 532nm, so I just need a red laser with the same visibility :)

YEP I can see it also, some unresponsible person will get there hands on one of these high powered diodes and make a laser out of it and hurt some one and that is all it will take new reg's/laws will make us criminals for doing what we do now !

They'll probably come up with simple security systems, like welding the diodes in the array, or more complex ones, like integrating small chips in the laser diode circuitry that only let the component operate when it receives a certain wave form (like a code) from the projector, or something along those lines...

I'm sure the governments will come up with new regulation regarding safety for those projectors... Because if the galvos (or any other sort of scanning system) that project the laser light fail, you could end up with 21W of pure laser power pointing directly at a screen...

Will something like this really fit in a pointer? 6 watts of green seems too good to be true.... and hell that's just the rated spec, what if they ramp all they way up to 10 watts... I'd think at the least heat and power draw will be an issue.

No but it would be nice for a lab unit. This way you can get long runs out of it. Im serious to see their heat sinks for the 3 diodes. At these power levels, your best just using the projector as-is and just switching the 3 lasers on/off to have a main RGB lab unit.

I cant imagine something to power 6W on a pointer...Thats far too much amps for most switches in flashlights

they are diode arrays anyways, u will need a huge assortment of lenses to focus this, you would never get it into a pointer. also the red array will draw about 15 amps of power probably- you will need external power or a lot of batteries :D

bump.

^^ Also, the lens assy will probably be worth it for Watts of red/blue
