Hello all!

I received two laser related items today;

1. A heatsink made out of two parts. My friend made it for me for a 3.8 mm can diode that I've had lying around since forever.

So, long story short, the heatsink itself wasn't a success, since the diode wouldn't focus. However, the part where the diode is pushed into the aluminum section http://i.imgur.com/Lqlgt.jpg was brass, and it gave me an idea.

I took my 3.8 mm can diode, and put some leads on it with some shrink tubing. I fed the back of the wires through the brass, so the back of the diode was against the brass and the front of it facing outwards. (I added thermal paste here too)

I took an aixiz module I had lying around, and put the brass in it, with some thermal paste around to help heat transfer between the two. I had to put a washer on the back of the brass part, and screwed it in.

In the same day, I also received a 445 nm diode pressed in an aixiz module from mendnwngs (THANKS, you'll get your package soon!).

It's an A140 C@si0 diode and I'm firing it at a mere 250 mA. IT works wonderfully, and since I'm not going for power, I'm probably going to keep it around there; maybe a little higher to 500 mA. I'm going to get a flexdrive sometime soon to drive it. :) It's going to be put in that flashlight host I keep waving around on my threads; the same friend who made the 3.8 mm heatsink is going to lathe me one for the flashlight.

All of the above diodes were powered with a 9 volt battery and a standard LM317 driver. (no cheap chinese ones!)

I'm pretty happy at the moment. :D

I also got a PHR-803T diode on the way too!

Two things I have left to do;

Find hosts for the Red diode and the PHR-803. I also need an aixiz module for the PHR too since the red took up the one I had as a spare.

Also need to get safety goggles. :can:
