Should there be a DPSS category?

Just wondering, because it seems a lot of DPSS related topics have popped up lately.

They would fit a bit better in their own category... At least, that's what I'd hope. :D

What do you guys think?

I would have to agree as well. But, unless I'm wrong, there are other systems that use wavelength changing crystals that aren't "DPSS" but have another title or acronym. If we're making a new forum topic, it should include all of the wavelength modifying systems, not just "DPSS". I can't remember what other examples might be off the top of my head, but I remember reading some chat about it earlier. Just my two cents :beer:.

With all the new wavelengths the last few years, categories like "red" and "green" becomes vague. I'd rather have one category for diode based lasers and one for DPSS based lasers.

Or more specific, one category for green DPSS lasers and one for other DPSS lasers. Then one category for "blueish" diode lasers like violet and 445nm, one for "redish" like 660nm and 635nm, and one for exotic wavelength diode lasers.

If we do that, would the green section become nearly obsolete minus the rare 515 and 561nm posts? I think DPSS as a category, then subcategories under that for different wavelengths. Then the current sections for red, green, 445, blu-ray, and the other one for yellow and such, those would be strictly for diodes laser posts.

I agree it'd be nice, but such a system will create a highly post populated section that might be very difficult to mod, and the previous green and other color sections might become nearly extinct.

I think there should be a DPSS category, it would keep everything more organized and it would be easier to find other peoples projects.
