I was looking last night at a YouTube video taken last year-- I counted 17 projectors all running the same beamshow- and FIY that was only the ones in the auditorium- across the parking lot in the big cafeteria and another complete set-up had almost as many-

what a great 'problem' to have-- TOO MANY laser projectors to squeeze all in one place.

At the SELEM2012 thread over at the other forum you can get links and after you view the video more related links at youtube are shown -- damn impressive even with our less-than professional videoing skillz and the very poor audio these vid cameras capture.

MUST BE SEEN IN PERSON..

At SELEM you not only get to see lasershows done on PJs, some costing more than $10,000 each- you can watch and video from every angle (watch out for killing pixels tho!!!) and meet the owners- ask lots of questions and become a real lasershow 'roadie' for a weekend-

Many come early (like Thurs. morning) and help these generous guys set up the shows & gear and many stay late on Sunday to assist in the take down and load out.

My first year I got their kinda late (drove 17 hrs solo) and helped just a little with the tear down. And I felt a little guilt then about doing what is right at SELEM.. REALLY for what we pay to attend--$40 ..

we get so much more than one could/would expect.

(we pay $60 but get a priceless shirt to wear when doing lasers and at the next years LEM (or any other LEM.)
WE sometimes forget the 'dues' other have paid with lasershows and shared knowledge-- we *think* we know members via the forums BUT until you meet them and put faces on those usernames you really dont KNOW them.

I was bitten by the LEM bug in 2010- and just ~3 months later I hosted a mini LEM here in Texas-- small turnout but a HUGE success in my mind. Two 'Pros' I did not 'really' know before SELEM give of themselves much more than i expected- they entertained me and a dozen friends with their projectors until 4 in the morning. I can never thank Platinum (Jonathon) nor Adam (300Evil * his dad) too much for doing that.

So if you want an experience you will never forget COME TO SELEM..
join the other forum just for the LEMs
( you can't see the pics or vids when JUST lurking)-- Even without a lot of extra cash to spend on it there are many ways to keep the overall cost down-- for a taste go to youtube and search SELEM- LEM- and you will be impressed.

To see the list of those who attended past events you can look at old threads and posts.

Sign up has started-
early planning is one key to success and putting off this is only going to keep you from attending..MAKE THE COMMITMENT!!-- step one.. is to send your shirt size and the attendee fee- then work on your transportation- once you have those lined up the rest wil be EASY!!

PM me with your Qs-- hak

CYA there Jeff- we will do an all Linna show for all in vthe conference room at HIE..

Hopefully we can also get some help making there PJs closer to compliant- just learned the the E-stop offered by LK is not quite the correct way to function properly
so that is just one fix that needs to be done. The way it comes wired is a fail... to work correctly the laser would need to stop if the cord got detached otherwise if you tried to use the wired E-Stop-- it would be worse than worthless... AND even with this plus all the other needed mods we would STILL need to complete a 36 page product report just as the makers of PJs are required. I am still, however in favor of upgrades that make these safer for us and those watching.....hak

WE NEED 4 MORE TO FOLLOW THRU WITH GB #2 on these==PM if you want on the list & do NOT count on future GBs for these...

FYI- I was wrong about these having an audio jack 'IN' I mistook a LED for a jack- its labled 'Music' so apparently it lights up when the Pj is in one of its 10 sound reactive modes- we will be adding a tutorial for the easy addition of audio-in. this is good to have as the mics in most PJ are none to great and its nice to be able to place the PJ anywhere without the need for them to be close to a speaker or have the volume loud in order to work correctly..to view this tutorial you will need to join ROG social group== PM for details on that.

+3 for you Z--

AS transport is the most expensive part for most to attend SELEM LM 121 is trying to help connect the dots-- the idea is to get comm going for primarly carpools- followed by flying together and transport from and to the airports- rent cars on site are not really needed- rides to and fro are easy to get.

Also while it often just falls into place room/suite sharing can save money- - BUT know this- it is your responsibility to check out anyone you plan to share anything with-- as around- whatever but finding out too late that personality and habits may clash can spoil an otherwise weekend- some are smokers- others snore ( I DO not btw) some thought must go into all of this.. If possible meeting long before the trip could be helpful -

- With very few exception in three SELEM events i have always met great people..and just because you ride there in same car does not mean you must share lodging- in fact it may be good to not share a room- long hours in cramped vehicle can bring out stuff.

WE all are not the same- some will be better/safer drivers than others some may be better to have drive during the day than others etc- swapping drivers often seems to work better and I have always like the gas pool method of paying a fair share- start with a full tank- each rider put same amount of CASH in a zipper bag. the tank gets filled from this pool more is added as needed- but no accounting is needed as long as all have same amt in the bag-

when back home the tank is again filled and any cash left gets split-- while to those wanting to use a card that may seem a hassle -it is much worse to have bad feelings about who paid for what later--

I know this all too well. Bring cash for the gas and use your card for everything else- if you want gas receipts just get them at every fill up.
any other way is asking for a headache--WE filled up once at SELEM- those that used that car to get around did another gas split- then the car was filled for leaving-- no math involved-- IIRC at mapquest you can enter your car and you get back an estimate of the driving cost for both ways..

ATM one possible seat leaving DFW- staying til monday 6pm and leaving DFW early Wed.

PM me for details

NEW INFO ADDED to the OP and post #9--

its TIME to make your final plans to attend. This will be my forth SELEM- I have never left one without feeling that what I paid and the work it took to attend was VERY well spent.

Its best to get to the venues as early as possible and try to stay there- leaving to go eat etc may cause you to miss something important--last year a few went out to eat at a resturant on Sat. they missed to drawing for the door prizes. AFAIK this will happen around 5PM- There is a kitchen we can use at the auditorium- Stove/oven and refrig. but no pots and pans- so plan accordingly- we will have ample plastic ware and plates/bowls. You will NEED to clean up after yourself- We try to put out some kind of eats on Friday and /or Sat- we ask that you help with the costs of this by visiting the tip jar near the kitchen as no funds from the attendee fees cover this.

See buffo, brad or me to give us a hand- we like to see as much of the shows as any others so even just 30min of your time to help with the feeding/cleanup/ etc is appreciated--next door to the Holiday Inn Express there is a walmart- if you can pick up something to add to the feeding that would be great instead of adding to the tip jar.. hak
