Recently it has come to our attention that quite a few SciFi customers have had issues with their lasers. As SciFi seems to have ceased business, it is not recommended to return items to them for repair. Pman and I have therefore decided to offer help to those of you who have bought a laser from him, but, either received a non-working device, or those of you who's laser has broken within their warranty period.

Please note the following conditions:

1) You must have bought a laser from SciFi that is defective - we are not offering a free building service.
2) The laser must have been received within the last 6 months.
3) You must provide proof of purchase, this is to avoid possible abuse of this offer.
4) You will need to cover the cost of all parts (including shipping if required) and shipping of the laser to and from its destination.
5) We are offering this service for free and as such are not earning any money, this means that any and all payments should be made as a gift with PP, or sent as a money order.
6) We are not liable for customs, or other seizures.
7) You must be over 18 or we will not accept the repair.
8) Do not send batteries with the lasers.
9) We are not responsible in any way for damages, or injuries incurred through use of the returned laser.

Pman has kindly offered to cover the US and I will offer to cover Europe - this should minimise shipping costs and any customs risk. Please feel free to contact either of us via PM for further details.

This sounds like a generous offer, but it might only be good for those who bought higher priced lasers. Having bought a laser myself that no longer works, I'd have to pay for replacement parts (probably in my case, that would be a $26 diode, at least), plus shipping both ways with the risk that it gets seized. Personally, I would consider just selling it "as is". Are you guys open to that as an option for non-working lasers? That way, the owner only has to pay shipping one-way and then it's done. Then you could fix it and resell at a profit.

LED its a good thing they are doing here and its your best bet as far as costs. No labor charge, no diode or driver mark up. Think of it like you said "a $26" diode and shipping. You can't beat that. Just getting it back in 2 days alone its worth it. It might not even be a diode, could be as simple as a loose wire or driver. Believe me this is being done as a group effort of Vets to get this forum back to its good old days from all this caos thats been going on.;)

Oh, I understand. I was just thinking that a $100 laser might not be even worth an additional $26, plus whatever the shipping is each way (I'm assuming about $10 each direction, but that's just a guess). I thought maybe they'd entertain the idea of simply buying the defective lasers to fix and resell. That way, they'd be able to buy a complete laser (minus the defective part) and then be able to sell it again after repair.

Thanks for the offer, but we are just trying to give people an option to have their lasers repaired at cost. Pman and I are not in it for the cash, so we are not looking to resell SciFi lasers.

The cost of shipping and customs is why we decided to split the US and Europe. Shipping within the US is not too high and there won't be any customs issues either. Likewise within the EU it's not a problem and shipping back will be around $15 with tracking, insurance etc. I could also offer non-tracked which would be cheaper, but obviously at the owners risk. The only additional cost in my case and for EU people would be shipping from DTR to Europe which is currently $14.

Anyway the offer's there if anyone needs it.

Hi I guess you mean from this thread?

Did you send anything back to him ? What exactly did you receive back, if anything? Need more details. ..

Never sent anything back to him. He was supposed to send me a whole new module but I got his normal shipping stories

That's what he was supposed to do for me too. He stated it in a post responding to someone else in a thread, but when I contacted him about it by email, I never heard back from him. I think his situation and ability to do that has changed now.

I know Pman's a little busy, so I can take a look. Please be aware that there could be a customs risk, you should therefore ship the bare modules and not full lasers. If interested, just send a PM and we'll sort it out.

Never heard back from the two guys who posted above and Pman hasnt heard from them either? Anyway as mentioned previously, Id be happy to take a look for you.

Are you guys getting any replies? With as big of an uproar as that whole thing was, I'd expect more posts here.

Yeah, no kidding. I only received one request and am currently awaiting a driver to repair it although in this case the owner accidentally put the batteries in backwards and its an older build so I went outside the boundaries a bit but he seems like a nice person and that is one very easy mistake to make. Was hoping that drivers would be here today but nothing yet.
I honestly believe that a few of those making claims were trolls and just jumped in to keep things at a boil. Grainde had a couple that were interested and then nothing happened.
Of course it's possible some may be afraid of investing any more and that is understandable although I don't know who wouldn't vouche for me at this point and I trust Grainde.

Hi Pman, it may also be that after purchasing, waiting who knows how long, then recieving a junk laser has put a fear of investing anymore money into it. Its a shame tha t potential laser hobbyist's are turned away from a great recreation we all here know and love, by a single person so self involved and greedy. In my opinion and obviously you and Grainde's, this site is about giving, not taking.
+rep when I can again
-Danny
