it would probably be tricky. The only way i can think of doing this would be one of three options.

Simple bore out the center from the top, and slide a custom host into this hole that is pretty much already a laser. which leave sthe top of it open and not that pretty...

Bore it out from the bottom, and have a small hole at the top for the aperture.

alternatively, and this may end up just messing thing up, but you could slicee off a 1/2" disk from the top of the hilt, and hollow that out and slide it over a focus adapter, and then the rest of the piece you bore that out and slide the custom host into it, with a small hole drilled in the bottom for access to the clicky switch.

Then when you screwed on the focus adapter you'd have the entire hilt together.

Would have to be a pretty crappy sword since it would negate the possibility for a full tang. Also would cost a lot just to have the thing properly re-wrapped. If you mean a purely ornamental sword though, that wouldn't be too hard, some are even made with hollow handles.

i think your better off just leaving your sword in 1 piece and go for a flashlight instead.

What if you had a Samurai Hilt custom machined to be ideal for a laser? I mean I am sure somebody out there has the skills to make a laser host that looks identical to a Samurai Hilt.

On the other hand, if you meant to literally use your own sword, that would probably not work too well....most of the ones I have seen have wood handles which would make for bad heatsinking. I know mine was wood(but I took it apart and carved a better handle for it so it wouldn't wobble anymore).

thats what i meant, because most sword hilts are made from wood so those wouldnt dissipate heat well anyways, but a fully machined hilt would not only look amazing but the handgaurd at the end would make for an amazing heatsink for the diode :D

I agree! It would also have enough room to potentially have multiple laser diodes and optics for beam combining....If you made the Hilt finned you could get some good heatsinking too....I think you could possibly get multiple Watts of 445 in there with decent runtimes.

yes and on top of that the beam would be so strong it would look as tho u had a true lightsaber or somthing IMO the host is what makes the laser, whithout a cool host the whole laser is just boring and lackluster thats why the arctic 3 is selling like crazy despite its shotty build quality
