Is it safe to photograph with iPhone camera?

Just got my new Survival Laser II, SE, 2200 mW of 445nm! I assume that's really bright. (have to assume since I never even put the batteries in until everyones got on their OD4 Eagle Pairs). Question is, is it safe for my iPhone to photograph the beam? I've read how the laser light is concentrated within our eyes and wonder if the camera works the same. I figure the spot will probably be too bright but is oblique viewing of the beam camera safe?
I've read that some gas beams are polarized but most diode beams are not,
is the beam solely Rayleigh scattering? If so, would that be polarized even if the source was not?
Thanks

I wanna say that as long as you don't point the beam right at the camera, it should be fine... but don't take my word for it. :)

You should be fine, I take pics with my droid all the time. So it shouldn't spoil your apple.

You can have your I phone and I will keep my Droid. My daughter has an I phone so I have compared them, just my preference.

I have taken a lot of beamshots with my iPhone 4
and nothing have happened. So dont worry !

Survival Laser is selling 2200mW now?! Even 1W is too much to sell so quick & easy. Click, Buy. No talking to a live person who can go over safety & judge if you sound like you get it required.

Don't worry about the camera, Worry about your Eyes. Don't look at the dot without glasses unless the dot is far away outside. Street signs are dangerous. Don't even turn it on indoors without glasses, too many shinny / glossy surfaces indoors.

$600?! Much cheaper to buy on the forum as well. You get to buy from a live person too.
$600 is simply a ripoff.

Off-topic & you didn't ask for an opinion tho.

I know $550 (10% off for LPF), is a bit pricey but it really is the best of everything. Diode, host, lens, copper heat sink, charger, goggles... Oddly enough, the best reason was the Survival Laser company name on the receipt, it made it a tax write off for a pilot. It was the best way for me to get started with a complete package. Now I have alittle experience when I put together a jrob/DTR or similar.
Yes, 2200mW is way too much power for most people since you can't use it without goggles, and with OD4s you can't see much except a really bright dot. Can't use it outdoors as its range is too far. I feel like a kid who wanted a BB gun for Christmas but got an AK74 instead.
It's going in my survival gear as an emergency signaling device because I can use it with 10 year shelf life CR123s. I hope I'll never need it.

Someone actually using a laser pointer for a real purpose?! Blasphemy! :p The tax write off is neat.
We have at least one other pilot here I know of. Bet he could use a tax write off as he a ton of money in lasers. Some sweet exotic wavelengths. :D
For emergency signaling more power Is better. Sorry for the rant. :undecided: If your storing it for emergency a lockbox or plastic disc in the tail might be good in case someone else ever comes across it.

"I hope I'll never need it."
Doesn't sound like the laser bug has really bit you yet... Many would hope to get lost so they will need to use it!

photograph from 2m or more distance - yes
video from 5m or more - yes

any closer is too risky i think

The beam itself should be safe and diffuse reflections from a decent distance should be avoided but are probably also OK for the camera. If the dot goes into the lens you will need a new phone :p same goes for your eye.

^ they sell new eyes now? Awesome! I'm so going for one Blue-Violet, one Emerald Green!

Wait, what was I thinking... One 405, one 532.

Yeah, my guess he's charging that because there are people out there who will actually pay that price, but you could build the EXACT same thing for what, 150-170 bucks? Even less if you use a DX driver instead of twin flexdrives. :wtf:

People pay 399 for an arctic spyder.... I don't think that the host is worth 150 dollars
