Here are the facts...
1-YOU were using an illegal and dangerous item in a reckless and dangerous way.
2-If you try to sue the police you can bet on #1 coming back to haunt you.
3-If you go to an eye doctor and he finds no damage you basically have no case.
4-You should consider yourself lucky that nobody was hurt, drop this and be more careful when shining lasers outside in the future. A responsible cop would have confiscated your laser and you would never see it again.
5-The police ARE above the law and they WILL make you and your family miserable if you try to sue them. To think otherwise is to be naive. Unless you have rock hard proof that they violated your constitutional rights or they unnecessarily beat the crap out of you it's going to be hard suing them. Every other day you see more tapes of police brutality pop up and nothing ever gets done about it.

Trouble is this will cause a lot of problems if you do sue now. On one side if you so that to an officer you will be arrested for assault and no one will ever really know about it but on the other hand if the officer did this to you and you take him to court about it the chances are it will make the news and provoke a ban.

Yeah, suing the officer would be a double-edged sword.

It's like reporting to the police that someone stole your bag of cocaine. You would get the thief busted, but you would also likely set yourself up an investigation.

I'd speak to a lawyer, though.

No. I just want this officer off the street thats all. And I think it was my friend that shined the laser at the people. might not have even been me. (I did let my friend use the laser for like 15 mins).

I wouldn't be concerned with this particular police officer. He was actually nice in comparison to what he could have done legally. You could be f ked right now.
And you can't expect a random police officer to know much about lasers and the dangers they pose. This incident is only being exaggerated by an irrational fear/intimidation/hatred of police officers, and it really is no big deal.

Be respectful and responsible and your encounter with police will not be bad. No damage was done so you should move on with your life.
There's no need to follow up with a lawsuit; it would be expensive and take forever and would accomplish very little if anything at all.

RELAX please.

friends + lasers + public = bad idea

I you let them use it, pay attention to what they are pointing at.
You are likely the more educated one on the matter so you should at least be somewhat responsible and supervise.

Always keep an eye on your friends when you let them use your lasers. He could have been shining it at cars/people/airplanes and you would be to blame for it.

NEVER I REPEAT NEVER LET IMMATURE FRIENDS HOLD YOUR LASERS !!!
I let my girlfriend use my dx true 50mw, and i told her,don't shine at or near people. we were at school at the time. Then she walks into the hall,and WUT ?? She shined it all the students walking. even trusted friends will go crazy with lasers. only let friends who actually have,or know about the hazards use it.

I'm in South Africa here you get your ass kicked, maced, and put into jail for a night with 20 drugged up gangster who pass you around like a box of cookies... then they let you out the next day and that is that.. Not to be mean, but this is the result of irresponsibility and you should be lucky nothing worse happened.

Just let it go.

You're likely to never see that police officer again, anyway.
Just be careful, that's all the officer was telling you, and it's the same thing everyone else here is.
So it would be best to listen. And throwing a fit because a police officer told you to be careful is not the way to do it. Yeah he didn't have to blast you in the eye, and that's unfortunate but get over it.
Temporary vision spots is nothing to sue over.

This is just another fact of common sense.  It does suck to be an A-hole and tell your friends "NO" when they ask to "see" your laser (just point it at a near by wall and say "see?"), but 99% of your friends (unless they have lasers of thier own and know what NOT to do with them), the first thing they will do is shine it at a person, car, aircraft, neighbors window, etc.  If a well respected friend asks to "see" one of my lasers, I shine it in their eye.  Just kidding, I actually lecture them for 2 min before hand (and kill the excitement of the whole thing) "Don't point it at airplanes or helicopters.  Don't point it at neighbors windows or yards.  Don't point them at or near people..." etc. Usually they end up saying "Fine, nevermind, I don't want to see it anyway!" Most of the trouble I brought to myself as a kid with lasers was due to my friend's horse play.  Most every kid wants to point at thier teacher's butt, or nipple, or at the back of someone’s head, or in someones eye to get their attention for a laugh.  Those are the type who hopefully stay away from high powered lasers all together.

NEVER LET ANYBODY USE YOUR LASERS
Unless you are willing to go down for their stupidity/ignorance/immaturity/bad judgment/etc, and are willing to pile more dirt on the hobbyist.
