Okay whatever I will drop it. But if that police officer runs into you guys, and does something bad to you (idk, maybe you're playing with your 500mW laser and someone sees you playing with it, thinks its illegal, and calls 911), dont come crawling back to me saying that why didn't you file a case to get rid of that nasty cop on the street who shot a 500mW laser into your eye. Life isn't fair and the cops can get away with some pretty f*cked up stuff. Just look at all of the vids on youtube. Unless you have bullet proof evidence it isn't worth going after the cops and even then it usually isn't worth the trouble.

I speak for myself when I say I'm not against you, and I believe you posted this topic in the corect place, and I feel honored that I was able to give my 2 cents.  But the truth is more unbelievable then lies, and it isn't always pleasant.  Don't take personal offence to our posts.  Just trying to get you on the right path as a respected member of the Laser Hobby is all!  I always respect it very much when someone is honest and post about their mistakes, unless they are bragging about it and all the trouble they caused.  Just be more careful when pointing lasers in public, and drive more carefully while drunk!  Or maybe you shouldn't do either one at all and avoid these types of situations all together. There is a time and a place for certain things.

Not quite... I'm with you on this one. But indeed, you can doubt if you get the best and objective legal advice regarding this matter on a forum for laser hobbyists. People here seem to think the police can get away with pretty much anything, and with that attitude you've got yourself a beautiful self-fulfilling-prophesy. Assumption is the mother of all f#ck ups.

I'd talk to a lawyer if you want real legal advice, not some forum.

Yes, your really the only one here who has stuck with me on this. I'm real sure the government/mayor in my town would want a reputation of their police officers being harmful to children. People would stop dialing 911 ("Eh...there's only a small fire going on, should I really dial 911?? What if the police officer shoots the person who started the fire, I didn't want any harm, I just wanted the fire to go out!"

We aren't against you. It's just that we don't want you to waste your time attempting to go after the police and making this public would give more ammo to those who would like to ban lasers for the people's own good. In the end nothing will happen to the officer and it will give lasers more bad rep.

And how would you go about getting the surveillance tape? Usually they record over it after a couple of days if nothing significant happens that they need to keep.

my opinion. let it go. r u being charged with anything? no. let it go, the cop was in the wrong, but so were you. and that tape prolly does not have the resolution needed to tell where the beam actually was hitting.

You know I respect you.  You are very intelligent.  However, your post seems based on assumption and to your own interests.  My advice is based off of my personal experiences, wisdom with age, and learning from studies. I have a personal lawyer of my own, I’ve been arrested a few times, and I know the fundamentals of how the superior court system works.  I understand the politics involved and I even study physiology which is the basics of human nature.  I have family in law enforcement and in the D.A.’s office.  I just speak for myself when I say my “advice” is advice.  Heck, I’m not even trying to defend the reputaton of laser hobbiest, I’m only trying to shead light (truth) to the situation so that L4sers can move on and know that this world is very cruel and unfair, and to accept it, and to be more careful in the future.  That is key when trying to grow, accepting the truth for what it is.
