Has anyone here ever thought o f buying a bunch of 5mw greenies in bulk of DX and selling them for a profit? I might when school opens. I can't get a real job so this could get me a little extra cash.

you could but then you have a bunch of hoodlum high schoolers(or what ever age group) running around with green lasers blinding people.

lasers go along with safety and shouldnt be in the wrong hands.

Everyone did think about that idea, but most of us didn't really jump on that fact. I'm seriously thinking of doing it this Christmas with dxtrue30mw.

I'm assuming you're in the US. If you're not, disregard and refer to the laws in your country.

DX 5 - well, those things are labeled such that they are legal to own, but be warned that they are often not in spec. The 2 that I have owned/used are both too bright to really use in situations like presentations in dark rooms or classrooms. They're not great quality control, and it may not be worth the hassle of trying to sell them to others. If you do, make sure they know what they're getting (could die at any time, not necessarily true output, not great quality control, etc.). My last DX True 5mW, for example, has its beam coming out at an angle about 20 or so degrees off of straight forward. Doesn't matter to me, but it may to people you sell it to.

DX 30 - You can if you want, but be forewarned, this this is illegal. Anyone telling you "oh, it's ok, you won't get caught" isn't giving you legal advice, and keep that in mind. These lasers are illegal to import into the US, and illegal to sell in the US. Again, you can if you want to, but it's up to you how much risk you want to take with breaking the law. Personally, I would rather you didn't, because 1 incident of a lack of judgment with a laser might be all it takes for that 1 lawsuit or 1 tragic accident that makes lasers, as a hobby, illegal for ALL of us. And young people with easy access to lasers (apparently they don't have access to them over DX now?) and who don't understand the risks/consequences of these things are the ones most likely to make such mistakes and make life hard for all of us.

I say no, don't do it. The last thing we need is 50 more uneducated and irresponsible kids running around pointing at helicopters or their English teachers.
If your customers get caught, they'll probably tattle, and then YOU would be in the shit-hole.
Sure, you'd make some money, but our hobby would get screwed.
And wouldn't you rather be the only one you know that has a green laser?
Assuming you're in high/middle school...
If you want money, mow lawns or something. That's what I did.
Sitting around at home playing video games doesn't do much for you.
Go out, learn how to work, and earn your money.
My $0.02.

I know most people are really stupid at my age so that's why I said 5mw. The price dif between dx 5 and dx 30 is only 10$ but I dont want to get in trouble for giving it to some irrosponsible people. Or knowing they could hurt themselves. Guess I shouldn't then.

I peddle a lot of stuff at my school, but no lasers. (everybody has stuff from DX anyways) I just don't want to take the risk.

I thought about maybe selling DIY or DX lasers for a mark up, but for the same reasons listed above, I decided not to.

I've been selling modded Motorola Razr V3 cell phones on E-bay..............

I am kinda like that, I am sorta like the school's reseller of DX stuff though, since most people don't know about it. :p I have long though about selling lasers there, but every time decided against it. [/quote]
Most people know about DX here so it is hard to really get a ton of money out of things, but the biggest hit are those universal remotes. I gave one to a friend and he "demonstrated" in class on the teacher's TV, and sure enough the next day I sold five of them by the end of second hour. ;D I know that most of the people I sell the remotes to will play some pranks and I'm fine with that because I know no real damage will come from those things. Now if I sold a True 30 to a kid and he gives himself retinal burns the guilt of doing so won't be worth the money raked in off of him.

I did this too, lol. I some guy paid me $15 that lesson for my scratched up one, and everyone in the class found out. Needless to say, the remaining 7 i had went quickly.
