Killing a cameras CCD is surprisingly easy. CCD's don't need a lot of light, so a laser can provide plenty or simply too much.

Ok, I will be clear! I know what consequences will be if you point against people etc etc.
I work for a company that have devices, it reads barcodes on different papers/tickets. The barcode reader has a small camera. My point is to make the device's code reader unfunctional. So it stops reading barcodes and qr codes.

You are lazy or want a new one? I should add, a bar code scanner doesn't use a camera chip... trolled I think.

Why do you want to do that? I'm sorry, am I being dumb by saying I don't get the point? You want to make a scanner; of which its only job is to scan; unfunctional, so that there is no point to it anymore.

Bar-code scanners do have a CCD to collect the information, but I believe you are right though. This does seem to be a trolling attempt.

Standard mobile cameras might be used for reading bar codes. There exist many apps for that (look for QR code reader). For this purpose just black tape is sufficient to disable it as easiest and cheapest solution.
But anyway, trolling or not, this thread might be used as source of information for similar questions.

I tore apart a bar code scanner and only found something that looked like a detector in it.

That would of been the CCD most likely.

Technically a CCD, is that it? A crude sensor or what? I was thinking of pixels when I said CCD, but really one sensor without multiple pixels could be a CCD.

Well, what ever it actually is, it can be damaged by intense light intake.
