I wanted to state my Opinon on this I have put some thought on...

If the current system would keep the 50 post before ability to rep that is fine...
I would also say that if you wanted to rep someone that you could
give more than 1 point , but that + rep would come out of your pool
of rep points.

In the -rep event... I would say that it could be reviewed by a forum
moral cop and then posted... this would be based on merit instead of
opinions this would prevent flammage. class #3 and above Dave I think is the only 4 could vote on a mod for the - rep posting.

I have noticed that if it was enough to -rep someone it would have a time value to it (kinda a cooling off period)...

This would stop a flame war over opinions instead of someone 's delibrate spamming or nonissue type responces... I had a better way of putting this before the forum went to maintenace mode and lost my
post:(.

If I had more time today to post the little details) ..ahh! I'll repost on this, but in the mean time the most active of the forum members and the forum elders, No-pun , have to come up w/ something cause differants strokes for diffrent folks is not a reason to -rep a person...

I see that neewer posters get -rep by (no names ) for no reason other
than not being cool. Josh ;)

What if we kept the rep system almost the same. People in this forum do not tolerate BS. When a member gets out of line, multiple members report the a-hole. That person usually gets banned. What if cOld set it up where we were self moderators and reported to him people that abuse the rep system and then cOld can individually take away that negligent members ability to add or subtract rep points?

I do miss reading the comments in the rep section. I found that to be really valuable.

I miss my 20 something repz :( hehe j/k...hehe actually a bit...:p My e-slong has suffered major shrinkage. :(

I liked rep points on the old forum, even though most of them were of no significance, a lot of them spoke directly about a persons integrity and made dealings on the forums much easier, at least for me.

I wouldn't have bought the Blue RPL from Ace82, without reading all of his positive rep and searching through his posts. Just one example of when I found rep points to be useful.

The fact that rep points are not an absolute measurement of a persons honesty is a given. However, they do go some way in establishing, whether or not a member is trustworthy. In the case of villageidiot. The man had 100 something reps and practically all of them were meaningless, I would however have had no problem making a deal/trade with him.

I completely agree with brtaman, and would like to add that, unless others can see the comments about that member, then reps are worthless - btw, I had 21.

Perhaps, instead of repping, we could post on the user's member page, so everyone can see it?

The rep system as of now is great, if we could view the persons rep and comments that would be near perfect.

LOL... so when are you coming over to cut the grass....

Jerry

John gets one rep from me if he cuts my grass too... Not just with a mower I expect quality laser grass trimming. :p

I'm still unsure about rep until a better system can be found but without comments rep is not very useful.

i say start new.......and someone should be in charge of approving the rep points before they are officially posted....to keep the useless ones out.......

^Hear, hear!

I had a tough time understanding the rep on the old forum because a lot of high-rep members had completely useless comments. And from what I've seen here already, it looks like rep has gone back to the old popularity-meter function.

Rep oversight is a necessity to make reputations the useful tool they could be. With something like this forum, newcomers NEED to know who they can TRUST. With the sorts of things we deal with here, bad advice can be very costly/hazardous thing, and reliable reputation scores are just the sort of thing needed to tell people who they'd be safe in listening to.

If anything, I say commerce feedback should have its own category, with a sticky at the top of the B/S/T area suggesting that people perform a search in the feedback section before transacting with someone.

Hmmm... I'd say I myself am a perfect example of a flaw in the rep system. Back when I first joined I was quite active, bought from members, posted some good reviews and made quite a few friends. Then came the intervention... LOL I only had 12 rep points but they were well earned and lately I counted on them to give my opinion a little weight when I did find some time to lurk and post. Now I'm back at square one, and maybe that's fair given the little that I contribute these days. Hopefully now that we're all used to the rep system there will be less abuse and it will be harder to actually get points. Which means now they matter more. I'm all for that.

Cheers, CC

What are you talking about....

You have 20 Rep points... (look in your Rep file in your Profile)
and 1 Rep Power point... that's the number of Rep Points that will be added
to a member that you give Reps to...:takeit:

another good thing is a person can only give rep once. So there wont' be huge lists of rep from the same person over and over again.

You can actually give reps more than once to the same member but you need to rep a number of other members first (not sure how many members are enabled in the software)... before you can do so....

In other words... you will need to spread the wealth...:yh:

Just to clarify. When I requested the rep I had sthing like 70 points. Then Co0ld gave me the 400 i got now. Ofc now I don't need rep anymore. When I sent youthe PM i had 70, then when you replied saying "wtf u areldy got 400" i discovered i had that much since at that moment I had no idea.

Someone even voted me negative for asking for rep when I alredy got.
