Regarding using lasers to cut wires in games.(specifically IR)

Don't do it guys even if you think you can get away with it if you have an IR laser over 2 watts.

Cameras can see 808nm at that power level very easily and even up to 980nm.


Good way to blind some body , get arrested , and sued by the place and person.

Really worth it for that $200 item.
when it'll cost you way over 10k+

even cameras with good IR filters will pick up a 1 watt 808nm with no lens.

and I doubt those cameras have good ir filters.

So please don't be a idiot and get lasers banned.

Remember with great power comes responsibility.

Tempting, hanging there like that in a glass box, almost too tempting like a forbidden fruit, just hang it there in front of you waiting for the taking.... but not worth the risk.

Won't IR wavelengths have problem burning white surfaces(most ropes are white).

Also, it would be pretty noticeable since you'll need to hold it pretty close, and you would most likely get caught easily by other people seeing what you are trying to do. It's also dangerous due to the glass, which IIRC could reflect some of the light back.

So here's the plan:
Wear IR safety goggles. Pass them up as a pair or really sick shades, or something along those lines. Have a friend with you, and have them insert however much money it requires to play. Making sure nobody is monitoring you guys, have him/her get the scissors up real close to the string. Now, here's the sneaky part. Have the laser up your sleeve (you should wear a jacket), and lean up against the machine casually, with your hand on the glass. Make sure the laser is touching the glass, and activate it. This should prevent bounce-back of the beam. Burn the string, but pretend your friend cut the rope. Collect prize, walk away.
Note: I'm kidding, please don't let me be an accomplice to a crime :D

Maybe the "game" is an intelligence test, like the ape needing to stack boxes to reach the bananas, or the interocitor from THIS ISLAND EARTH. People who play the game by the rules are ignored as cannon fodder. (Unless they're really deft with the scissors. In which case Centauri gives them a Gunstar, and they become Starfighters.) Those who break the glass to get the banana, er, electronics are given government or managerial jobs. Those using clever workarounds like lasers will be enslaved in the alien technology development labs. Those using telekinesis are catapulted to the front of the interstellar war effort.

...and will attempt telekinesis. You're right, we don't want them knowing that ;) But I think we're fine Joey, as long as we make it so very obvious that we're kidding, that even the most foolish of fools will understand.

What's your definition of a 'newb' in this instance; new to lasers in general, new to this forum or perhaps new to developing an understanding of common sense and a 'balanced' moral compass? ;)

This assumes that dishonesty is a desired trait they are selecting for in the first place.

If you HAVE telekinetic abilities, or ANY supernatural powers for that matter, James Randi for example will give you a million dollars if you can prove it under controlled conditions.

No one, in all the decades its been offered, has collected the money. Uri Geller, considered one of the greatest at telekinesis, failed, on the Tonight show, live, for example.

So, if you DO have this ability, perhaps stealing $200 - $400 iPods, etc, is a poor utilization of your potential?

Yes I even pm'ed ARG to put that in the other thread that security cameras can see the IR.

At first I was going to try to pull this off with my 445nm but then I kept reading and decided it was unlegit, plus I could get caught.
