Hey all,

I'm new here obviously but I am looking for a laser pointer that is a quality build, durable, and can burn almost anything.
Preferably green, blue, or purple, no red.
$250 Max budget.

Can you guys and girls help?

Laser pointers are not toys, especially not high powered ones. That being said, get a pair of protective laser eye-wear before buying a laser that "Can burn almost anything"

Look can you guys please just help me out with this?

I have $250 burning a hole in my pocket and I would like to take up a hobby in this. I have always like lasers and from the looks of it I can finally afford a decent one nowadays.
I just want the best burning laser I can get for $250 shipped.

First of all, loose the attitude. You never mentioned goggles in your post, so he was just making sure you knew that they were required.

He gave you a link to a website that sells decent quality lasers cheaply, instead of complaining, why dont you look at the link

Why dont you look in the reviews section. Here http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/review-compilation-all-reviews-just-one-thread-42164.html is a thread that might help you

Look up "2w IR laser"
That'll give you a nice burn.

It looks like this is his first laser, I doubt we should be telling him to get IR ones.

@OP: Check out Survival Laser or Yob's builds if you want something with lots of power. (and get some safety glasses!!)

Ok Ok I am sorry for the attitude. I think what happened was I used the wrong wording in my opening statement. I probably should have intruduced myself before asking questions.
I did not think I should have mentioned the glasses because it goes without saying that glasses are a must in using things that burn, weld, or spray particles of wood, metal, or extremely dangerous light.
With that I apologize to everyone.

I will look into the reviews somemore but i just want to make sure that if I am going to buy a $250 laser that I hope it would be quality built, last a long time(years not months)and maybe have replacement parts. I have read alot of bad reviews about the diodes burning up or dying out or the electronics frying in the laser making it a paperweight.

I hope your not expecting to burn metal or wood, because with 250$ you wont be able to get anything close to that strong. You would need a c02 laser or something over 10 megawatts of power. (or more). You don't have to take my advice or anything, but i think you should start out with an 150mw 532nm from optotronics. It would be a laser that would introduce you to the strength and it could pop balloons and light matches and they are a very high quality and they average around 160mw. (Also the shipping is very fast because it is in the united states, unlike any other company) You won't have to worry about the chance of custom's confiscating it, even though it is a rare occurrence. If you don't care about getting something to start out, then go to a cheapy website like rayfoss or lazerer. And pick out a laser that is in your budget. :D

Lol. I'm. Not looking to go that deep but I do want one that burns the stuff that people show in the videos ie: lite matches, burn or cut thin plastics, pop balloons etc etc.
I just want to get the laser and a pair of glasses and I very much care about longevity, durability, and quality. For $250 I am hoping to get the best laser and glasses for that price.

well for one thing, you have the word "fun" and "pointer" in the thread title
people will probably expect a kid waving it around erratically at a party or something..

but since you explained a bit more i would recommend yobresal's 445 kit or survival lasers
they are around $150 and are excellent quality lasers

if you would like to spend more, then lazerer.com is currently the most reliable chinese manufacture at this time
followed by olike.com and rayfoss.com
hope you find one that suited your needs

You really don't have to spend $250...

What I mean is you can get one of Gary's (Survival Laser Home) or Yobresal's builds and buy a few spare parts...

Personally I would recommend getting yobresal's laser and getting two goggles from Gary - so that you can show off the burning to a friend;)

Should fit right under the $250 budget.
