Hey Guys! i found a laser today. it was my grandfathers. made 1995. its soooo interesting though. its a WAY deeper red than any of my key chains. radioshack archives say its a 670. its way weaker than my keychain lasers and one can guess this was built with quality. i actually trust the safety label on this one. i cant find any for sale. is this a piece of laser history by any means? it has a nasty rectangular beam when tilted a certain way. thanks for any help!

Holy crap. This was the laser that first interested me. My uncle lost his voice box in 1995 and he got a red pen that was made very nicely, very heavy and had a deep red rectangular beam. I've been trying to find this laser since then.he told me it was from radio shack and was expensive . Weird. Anyone knows anything I'd be interested too

OK, that's just weird. I've had an LX1000 for a long time. In fact it was within 1' of me when I read this thread. Mine is definately in used condition amd most of the time I can't get it to work. It was used as a cat toy from as far back as I can remember.

\Now I can't get it to work at all:( I had stopped using it as a cat toy because the switch seemd to work intermittently so something was going wrong but it could be that it has reached the end of its life cycle now.It appears to be press fit from the front.

It was a pain to unscrew the back piece as there's nothing to really grab on to. Did you unscrew yours yet? I unscrewed mine and should have paid more attention to the battery direction. I'm almost positive it is case +.

Yeah i agree love a really deep red, but you need to have enough power in it to make it as bright as a say 5 to 10mw green to really see it, not interested in overkill just enough to see it as reasonably bright spot.

I think the top piece is press fit in and then the top cap is put on just because the top is tapered so it wouldn't make sense that it is pushed in through the top cap. Mine won't work at all now:( I cannot remember if I had bought it way back when or my father had and I ended up with it. That's OK, I gave him one of those Fasttech single AAA 532nm pens and he was stunned;)
Kind of weird that sometimes I don't like soldering and sometimes it is really fun. Think it all depends on the risks involved. It's fun when the item has low $ value and not so fun when you are in a very tough spt and one wrong move and it's over. Always better though with good equipment.

Off topic but....
Green, you should change "Local time in California" to "Laser time in California":)
