Hi guys,

We sell these 1x AA emergency cell phone chargers, and i thought...if the can charge a phone (at 5v) from 1.5v, then it must be some kind of buck/boost device..

And sure enough..

Ok its not megawatts, but with a good lens you could get wll over 200mW!

And I should imagine they would power a 405nm or LOC perfectly.
And you get a nice ali host as well that someone could make a "lid" for.

Oh, and its under 5 bucks :D

So you're using this DCDC converter AS a driver? They're meant to output 5V. They will undoubtedly sag under high load, but there will probably be quite a spike at startup.

160 mW is in the 350 mA range. I wonder if the boost has a resistor controling the current? The circuit might not take much more current but as a boost, it might accept a LiIon cell.

yeah like i said i'll gather more data tomorro, maybe even break out the scope to check for spikes.

EDIT

Arent all drivers dc-dc convertors? :)

I bought a few of those about 6 months ago for
the same application/experiment... but never found
the time to test them..
Thanks for the legwork...

My kenometer upgrade has arrived now as well so i'll be able to plot time Vs Pout as well.

Looks interesting.
I have made no progress on my joule thief to LM317 experiments, this might be a simpler solution. :)

(A cap across the output would likely extend the diode life)

Aye, was thinking that, im still in the "experimental" stage atm , so the modifications will be done once i have some figures.
