HELLO to all!

My name is Michael, and I recently decided to make an account with the forum after probably 3 months of creeping in it reading as much as I could (probably all of the threads currently posted!) I've recently become a very huge laser fanatic, and it's over come all of my previous hobbies, and (don't tell my wife) paychecks! As i'm here, I'll mention the lasers I have and what I want to learn more about. I have three lasers right now, and working on building a fourth. A red 300 "cute" from 0-like. The "SUPER BEAST" from the well known eBay seller for over-spec lasers!
I have many questions and hopefully everyone here has answers for me! I've read so many posts from all of you that I start to get a since of your guys personality's. And from what I can tell, Grammar and correct pronouncations is one of the most important rules to up keep, (do to reading one of the threads where you made the poor guy look like a fool in front of all of his buddies in college!

Okay, so my wife tells me i'm allowed to get another blue laser. I want a high powered green, but since blue is her favorite color i'm allowed to spend up to 250$, maybe more but lets try and keep it in the 200$ range! So far I've seen a few lasers that I have not seen any reviews for on this site, so I'm going to post the link and mention a couple things i'm looking for in a laser.

The first i'm looking at buying, Real 1W 445nm blue Laser torch/waterproof/focusable [OL-1W-445] - $209.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

the 1W 445 blue looks very interesting and the beam is quite attractive. With it I would be buying the appropriate goggles (my eye sight above all!) It very nice.
The second one Ive been considering, and slightly more expensive (100$ more!) is the arctic. Ive been very nervous of it because of your guys review of the website, and how poor their customer service is with returns and refunds. So I've been staying away from that site and sticking with Rayfoss and O-like.

From all the research from this site, and what I've done on my own. That one link to the Real 1W 445, is one of the few ones I've found I would like. Now, my questions to all of you laser fans/hobbyists, is which one should i get? What other 1W blue is there that i'm missing? Ive tried to comb through all the blue laser discussion threads, but nothing has quite peeked my interest. That or i'm just blind and missing something that is perfect.

I'm not trying to get the most powerful blue laser out there, so maybe one of you have a smaller, maybe 500mw, to suggest. All I want from it is so my wife and I can see the beam very clearly and for it to be bright.
I'm sorry for the enthusiastic first post, but i'm terribly excited for my new battery's come in the mail via UPS in a few minutes and soon i'll be having more fun with my greenie.

One last thing, is if against forum rules to get a phone number of a more senior member to get advice/ask questions? I was just curious. I seem to have an addiction growing!

I have an Arctic, and while I like it, I wouldn't do business with Wicked Lasers again. It was just too much of a hassle. The Arctic took almost 4 months to ship, and recently, I have found that at full power, it occasionally shuts down. The smart switch is nice to ensure others do not use it or hurt themselves, but it gets annoying any time you want to show the beam. The best thing about it is the host design.

I have two O-like products, their 400mw 532 and 400mw 405nm, and I like them both. I have had an issue with the button sticking on the 532, but they have shipped me a new tailcap button, and in the mean time, I am using a tail cap and button from another laser on it, so it still works. Their customer service is great, and their products seem to have much better reliability. I would buy the 445 through them, rather than WL.

That being said, I would talk to one of the guys on this board about making you a blue laser, rather than buying one. Use private messages through the board, and PM FlamingPyro, Daguin, Yobresal, or any of the other great posters. Check out the Buy Sell or Trade section for examples of hosts.

Don't get an O-like 1W 445, get a custom build from the BST section here. A lot of LPF members build sell their own customs builds that are not only of high quality but also a tad cheaper than the o-like one (and they ship from the US so it wont take forever to get and you don't have to worry about customs)

But the o-like 1w445 is super sleek! If you want to burn, funk with people, or just mess around in an unsafe manner... This is the laser for you!

I have it and it's super amazing, you won't regret buying it! ;b

No, I do not condone laser misuse! I was just kidding, Sorry my sarcasm didint get threw the text. :,(

All I ment was to shine a beam over some peoples heads, away from airtrafic. Or poping fireworks! Or other silly but fun misuses for lasers!

Ive got this good video of my lasers burning stuff, I'll post it when I get to a good Internet connection.

I was about to say, if someone with that kind of reputation would write such an immature comment should maybe go re-read what this site is all about! Haha, I may be new to the forum but i'm not like the kids from youtube worshiping kipkay then burning up all their lasers trying to "pot-mod" something!

Remove the H and then it'll be an awesome sentence. ;)

EDIT:

As for which laser i'm going to buy, i'm getting DTR's 1.4W/1.5W Hotlights kit, I figure he's probably one of the best out there and doesn't use cheap components. Also it's cheaper then o-likes, so works for me both ways. because there is NO way i'm going with Arctics 1W.

CL is the laser police! :p <3

@Miketilly: I would recommend one of Yobresal's $165 1.2W 445's:

http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/1-1-2-watt-445nm-lasers-sale-now-cheap-165-a-54005.html

His lasers are higher-powered and have much longer duty cyles. However, I can see how someone may not like the host. The O-Like host is beautiful and more appealing. Whichever one you get, do try and realize that a 1W laser is really not something for indoor use, unless you have a specially designated area for it like a garage where you usually conduct any sort of DIY/Testing business.

If you do decide to use it indoors, be careful what you point it at, and ALWAYS wear googles. At that power even looking at the "dot" on a wall will dammage your eyes. You may also risk dammage to wall paint, wall hangings, any type of LCD/plasma screen/tv/monitor, drapes, etc..

One guy on here blew a hole clean though his GF's LCD monitor! lol. Have fun, but becareful, cause if the laser doesn't get you, your woman will!

Regards,

Sal

Yeah I saw that! I thought it was rather hilarious but still very wrong and probably upsetting on his part. I saw his deal, but honestly I just like DTR's builds. Has a longer duty cycle, and in my, and I cant stress this enough (MYMYMY) opinion, he uses better quality components. But don't get me wrong, yob's products are awesome and great build quality, don't get me wrong, and i'm not choosing the price, because obviously yobs is less experience, just call it preference. And after seeing DTR's Frankenstein build quality, I fell in love with his work and really wanted something from his selection.
Don't get me wrong, I'll more then likely buy something from yob's colection in the near future, I need a nice green/red laser to add to my growing collection! As for DTR's host, I rather like it! it allows for a bigger heat-sink and less overheating. Just my humble opinion, and it's not that much coming from someone who's so new to actually talking on the forums. Just comes down to what you like :)

Also, I would Never use such a high powered laser indoors! And to answer your safety questions, yes I have goggles! I'm new, but not dumb!

Thanks very much for the concern though! It's nice to run into nice people and such a great forum for information. I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay here.

Didn't see your edit before I posted about DTR. DTR's stuff is excellent. Thought you were looking for a fully assembled laser.

Enjoy it!

DTR makes some Awesome Lasers, but in reality ALL the builders on here do a GREAT job. Most of Us on here are a bit like the Stasi when it comes to Laser Safety, so I'm not the only one I just caught it 1st.

I can agree with you there CL, From what I've seen there are some truly talented people! and Trust me, I'm going to be just as annoying when it comes to laser safety as you guys are. Especially if some person is here wanting to "burn there teacher" like on the kipkays youtube comments. *SIGHS AT THE STUPIDITY* :anyone:

I see your also from the sunshine state. Hows the temp up there in the panhandle?

Our lasers behave differently then other people's due to our nice warm climate!
