Question about diffraction gratings

I've been looking around some of the popular optics and laser sites and I have had a hard time finding diffraction gratings that would be suitable for 1W+ lasers. My friend dans cheap green broke recently and he gave me the screw on diffraction gratings that you can spin and I tried passing my LG 532nm labby through it and it melted after about 3 seconds. So does anyone know where to get diffraction gratings that can handle higher powers.

Also if you know any places that sell the plastic ones tell me too because I could use a few of those for my lower power hand held lasers. I appreciate any tips and directions

Aye, finding quality diffraction gratings is looking to be a pain. I ordered a cheap one off of eBay from Israel a few days ago, no idea if it will withstand the power though. When it arrives, if it does, I will report so. :)

For the cheap plastic ones you can get them over at Cajunlasers or try eBay. Make sure you grab the 13500 lines/mm ones if you want the "starfield" look. The other ones just create a single row of dots.

I have no idea on the high power ones though.

1000lines/mm could be either burst or linear depending on their orientation. If you're talking about the typical rainbow cardboard-slide types, you mean 13500 lines/mm.

Thanks for the catch! You are correct. I was referring to the 13500 lines/mm ones that Clif sales. His 500 and 1000 are the linear ones.

So far the only place that sells gratings capable of withstanding high powers is dragon lasers. Im about to go out but tomorrow I'll probably order them. I was very surprised at how difficult it was to find glass gratings.

13500 lines/mm can't be right, that would be a 74nm periodocity. The periodicity must be larger than the wavelength or nothing will happen.

I think he means line per inch. Some gratings are measured per inch and some per mm which gets annoying as hell when your looking for them.
