I found a little extra time, so as long as it's ok with RHD I'll most likely be making these. I'm "prototyping" the design this weekend to make sure everything works like it should. Does anyone have any objections to copper, assuming the same price?

Silly question but can these focused through a lens? And how would you mount the lens?

Those are just the lathe work, I still need to mill the slot for the diode and power lead as well as tap a hole for the set screw. You can see a close representation of what they will look like in the OP.

TJ, If the diode has a FAC lens then a standard aixiz lens might be able to focus them. That's the theory at least, I'll be testing a few of these and sending a few out to others to make sure before I make a bunch though.

Edit: I'm also not planning on adding the 2nd threaded hole for attaching a lead. While it's a good idea with aluminum, I plan on using copper so you would just be able to solder a lead directly to the module. I hate small taps with a passion and avoid them at all costs. Also, tapping that second hole would require another mill operation as well as making some sort of fixture to make sure the holes stay in line with each other. All of that stuff is time consuming and costly!

Cool. Thanks for the clarification, Pontiac.

Hey guys,

Sort of semi-back now (i have internet again, but won't be home for another 5 days).

At any rate, yes, of course, my permission a hundred fold :) not as if my permission was even necessary though, I'm just super excited to have your help pontiac.

Also wanted to mention - I never added myself to the group buy list because I had always planned to figure out my needs at the end (and figured I'd be filing in a bunch of qty gaps anyway). But since we've got pontiac fast forwarding this initiative for us (thanks!), I should probably state my own desire for 10 or 15 (depending on price).

Exciting!

This is pretty exciting, I think there will be some great projects that spring from it!

If it helps any you can put me down for two groups of two. That will at least fill up two spaces instead of one:beer:

BTW / FYI:

I'm basically not updating the OP with your requests at this stage. Since Pontiac is going to be making these for us, I'm going to leave it up to him how he prices / divides / ships orders.

Could you keep track of how many are requested so far for me? I want to make sure I make enough for everyone!
I'll collect payments and ship everything from here if that's OK with you RHD, that way you don't have to front any money yourself.

Oh and, RHD, remember back when we were talking about the HL63133DG and someone mentioned the orange 622nm c-mounts? What was the price for them? Didn't Heruur use to sell them?

Price was $750 FAC'd. I think we had the option of grabbing them in 9mm format. They were not the same diode huurer had.

IIRC, they had some insane temperature requirement of 5 degrees C.

I've got some other ideas in the works for sneaking into the low 600s with a portable. Time will tell.

In the mean time, how many people from this list are still interested in this pseudo-GB if I go ahead and place an order through eMachineShop? I've got a few builds with C-Mounts that I really want to unlock.

I am still interested.
I'v got some builds as well that have been on hold, for a better design, and also time.
