Hello everybody !!
I want to start making a laser harp and i want your opinion about the laser modules and laser diodes that i will need to use.
I want to propose me e-shops for buying laser modules and suitable laser diodes,if that is easy.
Also i want the laser beam to be visible by the human eye.
I want as many proposals as you can so that i can compare prices.
Thanks in advance !!!

Hello everybody !!

What type of harp, beam interruption (with the sensors on the top), or beam reflection (with no sensors on the top and "reflection readers" on the bottom, with the beam ?

Also i want the laser beam to be visible by the human eye.

Green is the more visible wavelenght that you can find cheap modules ..... check o-like for low power ones

then, small green beams are the better ones, both for visibility (still you need some smoke in the air, anyway, also if green is the more visible color), and for costs .....

like the ones that o-like was selling in groups of 3, as example ..... i don't see them on their site, at the moment, but you can still try to email Susie and ask them if they still have them ..... or just buy a "batch" of "5mW" pens from ebay, and dismantle them (it's still an option) ..... or buy directly low powered modules from some ebay seller, like these ones ..... or these ones ..... just as examples .....

Keep in mind, anyway, that you still need to cool them, so probably you may end using an aluminium "rail" or bar, for host all the modules and keep them cooled .....

The only other option that came me in mind (without use a scanner, ofcourse :p), is using less modules, and beamsplitters, but this may complicate a lot the optical part (and isn't cheap) .....

No, no, and no.

CDS sensors are slow and have memory effects.

There are several laser harp designs on other forums, and all of them have found its not as simple as it looks. You need a timing means to make sure you do not detect the glare from other lasers. A simple "threshold" photocell does not make for good music.

Your asking questions at a level that makes me unsure of the idea of your handling lasers.

You have not once asked about safety, which is even more worrying.

Well, if he want to do the system with a module for each beam, and a photodiode for each beam, enclosed in cylinders for avoid interferences, it can be done, i suppose, but it don't have the same results of a professional unit .....

And also, as you correctly stated, safety is a must-have ..... being the beams coming from low, pointing to the hands (and face direction) of the user, it must wear safety goggles (but in this case, i'm wondering how he can see the beams) ..... maybe using very low powered (less than 5mW, anyway) modules, and smoke for the beam visibility, it can be done the same ? ..... still having some doubts, anyway .....
