You can scroll down a bit tell you see this search bar.

Type in your query for about anything laser or battery related and you can find the answer.

The built in forum search doesn't work very well.

To answer your question directly. Efest 16340s are a good value. The AW 16340s are considered the top of the line.

Test results for Sanyo, Nitecore, Panasonic, AW, Efest, Ultrafire batteries.

You might want to consider the 18350 as its the same width as the 18650, both for its capacity and tighter and snugger fit.

Default Re: Proper 16340 Batteries for my 445nm 4W Laser

Alright thanks guys, I'll check out 18350 batteries.

Does anyone know how many Amps this 4W laser will be pulling from the batteries?

Update: I checked out the 18350 batteries and I'm not getting the point of them, the mAh is petty much the same as the 16340s.
My question wasn't answered really. I need to first know if I need to worry about Amps with this laser and then I need know which batteries
will best suite this laser and give me the most mAh.

Whoa whoa whoa! Don't buy any 16340s or 18350s. This laser uses 2x26650!!
4W of 445 will pull around 3-3.5A if I remember correctly.
It would be best to purchase some Keeppower 5200mAh 26650 batteries. Those are what I use for my 7W laser saber.
Here is a link to some: 26650 KeepPower 5200mAh IMR26650 High Discharge Flat Top

I see it now, 26650 with a case reducer and extension for 2 cells, just run good quality IMR/INR cells as specified, if you want to use the case reducer then use good quality IMR/INR 18650's as specified.

Draw for 2 cells is 3.0 amps for the 7W NUBM44 with SXD driver, this 4W using likely a decent driver as it's a Jet is probably around 2-2.5 amps as the cells discharge, no problem for good quality 18650's such as EFest or most any IMR formulation.

Oh yes, draw is lower on the battery, silly me. The diode itself takes about 3-3.5A though. 18650s are fine, but 26650s will give significantly longer battery life.

Finally, thanks Sta for helping me out with the Amp situation, that was really started to bug me.

About the 26650; the problem there is I will have to use the extension for this laser making it almost 14in long which is just too long for me.
Even without the extension, this laser is 11in and that is pushing it....

RedCowboy, like I said in the original post, I do not want to have to extent the length of this laser anymore than it already is.
11in is already pushing it for me. I'm aware I will get much better battery life with 2 18650s/26650s but I'm not a fan of the though of having a 14in laser.

You could probably get away with using 2 26350s. They are not common batteries but I have found some:
https://www.fasttech.com/product/536...rgeable-li-ion

The battery life will be significantly better than 2x18350 (which would just be pitiful.)
By the way - my laser saber, which uses 2x26650, is about 12.25 inches long, and is easy enough to use. The length actually makes it feel more 'powerful' if you know what I mean.

Oh wow those are some interesting looking batteries haha, but they actually might be perfect for my situation.
Since this laser says to use 16340s and I'd be using 26350s I wonder if that extra 20mm would fit?
Are there any other reasons why 26350s wouldn't work for this laser?

And about the length, my laser will be 11in (so pretty close to yours) and I think I will grow to enjoy that length, but yeah 14in just
sound too damn long for me; at least right now it does.

They would fit fine, the springs are there to prevent that problem. The difference in total length is 2mm, not 20mm. And the width of 26350 is the same as 26650 so I wouldn't worry about it.

Default Re: Proper 16340 Batteries for my 445nm 4W Laser

For a 4 watt diode you could get away with a good quality pair of 18350's for short duty cycles of 30 seconds, you will have to recharge more often but 2 amps is not that much, a pair of IMR formulated 18350's will do it, just not for heavy use.

I tested some possibly knock off AW 18350 cells and they put out 3.7 amps each at 3.7 volts into a 1 ohm load, they could hold up 2 amps in series for 30 seconds no problem, how many cycles you get before they get beat up and need replacement is debatable, but they will work giving 2 - 2.5 amps without dropping below 6.8 volts for 30 seconds, that's the SXD's cutoff, the Jet driver may cut off lower ???, it's just not the ample capacity that we like to work from but you could use them for compact carry and shorter duty cycles. Make sure to get high drain cells such as the IMR formulation so your voltage won't sag too far under load. DO NOT use ultrafire or cheap cells.

Default Re: Proper 16340 Batteries for my 445nm 4W Laser

I have a PL-E and I think using 2 26650 is a plus for this laser.. it really helps the runtime, plus I think it looks better longer.

Once you have some MX900, mag lite hosts you will realize the PL-E is bigger but so much ***ier haha.

I would run the 26650 with the extension it comes with, that is how Jet intended it or with 2x 18650 (high end ones). It will guarantee your batteries C rating can keep up,I generally like to exceed the rating or else you are running the battery at 100% of its capability.. this will eventually lead to a melt down once internal resistance begins to fall over time.

Just saying, if you don't use the batteries JL tells you to they may also say they won't cover your warranty if you melt down these little batterie's inside of it.. I know I wouldn't want to if my customer hadn't followed recommended batteries due to the length of my host whi check is public knowledge on my purchase descriptions.

Sta:

Oh that's right, I'm still getting used to how to read the measurements of these batteries (that 0 at the end threw me off). So yeah 2mm should definitely fit.
Anyway, thanks alot for that link; I will most likely use 26350s in this laser. And if I get this laser and it turns out that 13.7in isn't too long for me I'll just get a pair of 26650s and have an insane battery life haha.

This is a different topic now, but this Jet laser was the first REAL high powered laser I could find with testing to back it up; do you know of any other REAL high powered blue/green lasers? I want at least a 3W blue one and maybe a 1W+ green one.
All the other "high powdered" lasers I found were just a lie like all the lasers at laserpointerpro.com.

Try https://www.sanwulasers.org/ - they are one of the most trusted companies here. JL and SW have basically the nicest high-power lasers available. If you're looking for something more plain, try out BitLasers.
