RedCowbow & 94Z28, thanks for those suggestions, I think I will be going with 26350 batteries (I know they are a bit strange, but I think they are perfect for my situation) and
if I receive this laser and it turns out that 35cm isn't too long I'll definitely pick up a pair of 26650 for all those benefits. Can any of you guys think of a problem with using these 26350s?: https://www.fasttech.com/search?26350

If the 4A discarded 6a max was a spec from a company like Sony or Panasonic I would believe but who knows what those can really pull continuous.. and the life won't be anywhere near the 26650 still. I get my 26650 from radios hack on clearance I haven't even charged them once since I got my PL-E probably will soon tho.. I decided to build mine at 1.5w to have a "continuous" duty cycle.. it takes a long time to get hot.

94Z28, hmm maybe I'll ask JL if those 16350 batteries are ok to use. And that's funny that you haven't even needed to charge your 26650s yet

Btw which PL-E Pro do you have? How is it working out for you?

He custom built a PL-E Pro with a NUBM07E diode.

Keep in mind that 18350 batteries will reduce your duty cycle. With 2x26350 or 2x26650 you will have practically unlimited duty cycle. But with 18350s you will have to turn it off after using it for 30sec-1min.

Sta, ohhh ok I see, I thought he bought one straight from JL like I was.

And yeah I'm definitely going to go with 26350s and possibly 26650s instead of 18350s. Duty cycle is how long you leave the laser on for right?

Btw I checked out that Spiker laser from SanWu lasers and that is this is amazing!

I see you are a new member, PLEASE be aware that you can destroy your vision permanently with a moments mistake, it happens all the time, that's why we wear the safety glasses. ( Mistakes happen all the time, not blinding, only because we wear the glasses ! )

You must wear laser safety glasses that attenuate the wavelength you are working with, one slip up at close range and you can blind yourself forever.

Even the spot of these 5 watt lasers can do damage to your retinas that may not show up right away, so wear the safety glasses.

If you want a good deal on the strongest you can get at a bargain this is it, it takes 2 x 26650's, but again you must protect your eyes.

Also SANWU is very good.

Yep - that is what duty cycle is. The higher the power is, the lower the duty cycle. Fortunately the PL-E Pro is a massive host, which makes heatsinking much easier, thereby improving the duty cycle.

The Spiker is a really amazing host too. I hope to purchase one myself eventually. Excellent heatsinking and I think it's water resistant too.

Edit: about the goggles, if you don't want to spend too much, try these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003O...3JL&ref=plSrch
They are much cheaper and very nearly as effective as the ones that RCB posted. However they WILL NOT work against green lasers. So if you plan on getting a green later on go with what RCB posted.

RedCowboy, yeah I need to pick up some safely classes. I'm usually one to be careful with lasers, but this will be my first laser over 300mW so I will be extra careful (I know its a huge step up, but I'd rather just go straight to the top of handheld lasers rather than waste money buying multiple lasers building up to 5W.) I will likely be using this laser to shine into the night sky, but also to burn things and show it to my friends; do you know where I can pick up some cheaper pairs of quality safely glasses? (I will need about 3 pairs for both 532nm and 445/465nm).

Be careful about shining into the sky, if there are any aircraft anywhere you must not shine into the sky, they are cracking down and you do not want to take any chances, make sure you have clear sky if star pointing and know that an airplane can pop over the tree line in an instant.

I would only point at stars over head in a clear sky far from any airport.

Technically I think the limit is 10 miles from an airport, so you must not shine anywhere near aircraft, they are likely taking pictures and marking locations.

If you hit a cockpit they will locate the spot it came from, make sure it never happens, it's a very serious felony to shine a laser at an aircraft, even if it's an accident.

Buy good glasses, I used to double up the cheap ebay glasses but I would test them with a camera while wearing good glasses, also putting on a show requires a permit, if anyone gets a glancing shot of lens flare and makes a fuss about it you can be in trouble.
I am sorry to say it's just not safe anymore to trust in common sense, you must protect yourself and not hurt anyone or allow yourself to look like the bad guy, it sucks but it's a serious hobby and requires serious safety precautions.

Get good safety glasses, make some videos and show them off, but I would keep the laser to yourself or only show it to your most trusted friends and they must wear the safety glasses.

Never show it off to strangers, it's just not worth the risk.

I don't take mine out of the house.

Here is another source (Banggood)for 26350 batteries, I bought a couple of these for a build, but haven't used them yet. It looks like they're on sale right now @ 2 for $9.99.

Thanks BowtieGuy, I think those are the same as the FastTech ones here ($7.46 for 2): https://www.fasttech.com/product/536...rgeable-li-ion

I've purchased from FastTech many times in the past and they have free shipping and for $1.87 it'll be at my door within 10 days so I'll probably go with FastTech, but thanks for searching for me

Do any of you guys known anything about LuckLasers?

I found this 1W green laser: Upgrade 1000mw high power green laser pointers burning handheld green laser - $159.00 : High power laser pointer store, LuckLaser focus on laser pointers.

And this 2W blue laser: 445nm 2W Ultra high power Blue laserpointer best selling 2000mw laser with free laser Glowstick Free shipping - $89.90 : High power laser pointer store, LuckLaser focus on laser pointers.

Those seem to their highest powered lasers unless you want to spend over $500 for a 3W blue laser.

Hmm I don't think I'm looking to buy a laser from Ali Express, it seems like one of those cheap Chinese wholesale websites.

I know luck laser isn't the most reliable company, but I did speak with someone from their live chat and they said that particular 2W blue laser is a true 2W and their green 1W will give you a 500mW-1W beam.
Some of their other lasers look a bit sketchy, but I think those two are pretty solid, but not nearly as solid as JL and SW which are alot more expensive. I think I might buy the LuckLaser 2W right now since it has so many
great costumer reviews, it looks like a solid laser and I really think its a true 2W. Then later on I'll get either the JetLasers PL-E Pro 4W or the SanWu Spiker 5W. THAT'S going to be a tough decision...

Actually XPL (the aliexpress seller) is a company I brought to light - and they are very different from every other aliexpress seller I've seen. Their main business is things like laser christmas lights (Star Shower and similar) but they also sell handheld lasers. The owner speaks with people very frequently. And when I bought a 500mW green and a 600mW red from them, they were both at least 20% overspec. Pretty good products--they LPM them actually--and they offer a 15% discount to LPF members if you contact the owner. Sometimes the quality isn't the best but it is far better than lucklaser and the like.

Lucklaser's reviews, if you look closely, are actually faked. They are all written in chinglish which is a very bad sign.

XPL's 2W blue lasers will be 2W, no ifs ands or buts.
