All I know is that Class3a lasers will be illegal all over the world before problems like this would even reach my 4th world country, so I personally have nothing to worry about

So even though that "report" is dramatized greatly even they admit that at anything over a mile, a laser is "indistinguishable from other lights". So basically, any plane that is in the sky mid-flight isn't going to be affected by a laser. I think these lasers present a greater fire hazard (lighting matches, paper, electrical tape, cats, etc.) than a flight hazard. it's just so ridiculous now.

A good RPL-400 should be way brighter than the other lights from a mile away

Unless you are shining a >300mw laser it seems highly unlikely that it could cause ANY problem for a plane at high altitude. Planes that are taking off/landing and helicopters are the only exception.
Basically It all comes down to common sense and a couple of idiots who don't have it.

If it ends up being some huge concern it wouldnt cost much for them to keep a pair of laser goggles in the cockpit in case of a "laser attack." That way if they think they see a laser when they are 10000 feet out they can just put them on and land the plane with no worries.
