So like the title says, pre ordered a SF501B 1 Watt 445 laser from Sci-Fi lasers (AKA TheJoker) :yh:

The diodes he uses should arrive by this friday, so allowing time for building and shipping and my laser should arrive sometime early to mid December.

Also ordered these to go along with it:

2pcs TrustFire 18350 1200mAh 3 7V Li ion Lithium Lion Rechargeable Battery He | eBay

New Charger for 26650 18650 25500 14500 14650 18350 Rechargeable Battery US Plug | eBay

I know they aren't the best of quality, but I couldn't find any decent brands for 18350 batteries. I also know there has been issues in the past about ebay battery chargers but this one looks better (and costs more) than those 2$ ones that have had problems, so I'm hoping it will at least work well enough for now.

Anyway though, really looking forward to it. My first really high powered laser :3

Glad I live in Canada. I've heard of a lot of problems getting powerful lasers and/or lithium ion batteries into the USA and other countries, but it seems pretty relaxed here. I had no issues getting my 50 mW green and 5 lithium batteries before :)

Hey great man. I'm really glad you went with this one. You will be more than happy. Those 501B from joker are great. You will be very impressed when you click that beast on.

So about safety glasses..I have a pair of 10$ ebay glasses that are for 405-532 nm. I know ebay glasses have a poor reputation, but they worked well enough for my 50 mW 532. Think I can give them a chance or should I buy some better ones?

It's hard to say " yes" go get them , or " no" you'll be fine, and you go fry your retina . A better pair should always be something to consider, but as long as your careful and be aware of everything that can potentially happen, the glasses you have, although probably not rated very high, will block enough of the light for it to be tolerated by your eyes, just not totally safe for them.

Hmm for 10$ I can get those orange Uvex ones off amazon. According to reviews done on this forum they work for blocking 445

good 18350 batteries can be hard to find.

I can say that UltraFire "1200mAh" 18350 batteries, mine are yellowish, suck compared to AW. Unfortunately Tmack, battery junction only sells these crap ultrafire ones in 18350. the 16340s they have are also ultrafire, though the tenergy CR123s battery junction sells are good, those are not what our friend needs

SerpentSlayer recommended some good ones, though they are IMR and I am pretty sure you don't need batteries that can discharge so fast. 16340 batteries also fit the 501B host, I use them in all of my 501B lasers requiring two cells rather than a single 18650. it's true the 18350's diameter is better suited to the 501B, but if you don't mind a tiny bit of rattling, these could work well for you:

AW RCR123a Protected 750 mAh Battery

Note that these batteries, which I use, only claim 750mAh, not even close to the ultrafire's claimed 1200mAh. unfortunately, the 1200mAh claim is just that, a claim. the 750mAh AW I have outlast them every time

Problem is, for this as well as SerpentSlayer's suggestion, Lighthound does not ship outside of the U.S. I don't personally know of a better site for these, I'd say CNqualitygoods but they only have the crap ****Fire ones and some I have no experience with, these: 1 pieces of Keeppower 16340 3.7V 700mAh Protection battery_Battery_Battery&Charger_Electronics Wholesale online

I sure typed a lot to not be much help, sorry man

Tell you what, you want them that bad, you can pay me to get them and then send them to you. I'd definately see if the ultrafires satisfy you before doing this, as shipping for you would be high. It's also likely that with a bit of effort, you could find a site that does ship to canada decent cells

Yeah I'll just have to hope my trustfire ones work well enough for now. :p I don't expect them to be great but just good enough...

I do want ones that have a protection circuit since they're safer and these trustfire ones claim to have a protection circuit. I guess I'll have to TRUST them. *I am a riot*

I wonder what kind of run time I would get out of them (lets assume for the sake of the question that the ones I'm getting are actually 1200 mAh)

I use some of the ones you speak of for my 1500mW 445nm laser. granted the current is around 1.5A or maybe 1.2A (Lazerer's site states both for it), this laser kills them pretty quickly.
