Practical fly swatter replacement?

Man a fricking fly has been bugging me all day, despite my best efforts to swat his arse, he's still flying around somewhere.
The thought of a "fly beamer" sprang to mind a few times. Is cooking flys another practical use for a laser? Has anyone done this? Is anyone starting to wonder whether I should have a laser or not?

A laser powerful enough to instantaneously kill/maim a fly will likely put holes in your property every time you miss.

Befor you spend a dime on a laser maby you should invest in a good computer controlled tracking dopler radar to control the laser with

We normally just use a twisted up hand towel.
You know the way you do it for towel fights.
works every time.

I have software around somewhere (on my external) that I was working on that used a webcam to track fly movement. Finding range was proving to be the issue when I abandoned the project.

If you want to do it, you'll need precision galvos, a way to computer-control focus distance, and a way to find range.

Hmm, the tracking is interesting, I have a Logitech Orb that pans and tilts. It has face tracking but I reckon a flies face is too small. I wonder if range finding monoculars/binoculars could be incorporated somehow, hacked or modded.

I like the towel snap, been awhile since I've done it so I can practice up on my snap lol.

The kinect can probably be repurposed as a controller for the laser. Wonder if the isralies would share some of the tech they developed if we asked politely:D

I have some kind of toy flyswatter 'gun'. It's just like a fly swatter, but then springloaded onto some kind of handpistol. Though it might not work while the buggers are flying, it's great for splatting them from a distance while they are on the walls. :D Lemme get you a pic:

well, I would not say safe but, I could make a 5x445 box that uses mirrors and phosphates to atract flying insects, and in theroy make a small pickup that detects entry....... nm getting expensive :p

or you could diffuse a laser and make a flashlight out if whatever lasers are close to the center of the visual spectrum for a mosquitoes or flys eyes I would say a good 500mw laser flashlight would at least blind them at close range, once again prob not safe

Hmm... you when they are sitting still on a window, you can clip the wings off with a 200 mW+ laser focussed to a small point (wear goggles!).

I've found the electic fly squatter much more effective though, just wave it around the bug and it'll hit it soon enough :D
